the parts catalog website alludes to the part but when i click it, it does not give me a part #

FML, the base of the b7 s4 compass mirror won't attach to the narrower base of my existing a4 mirror...i can't find the mount that attaches the b7 s4 rear view mirror to the windshield anywhere...

the B7 is provisioned for a rain sensor, you could get a new B7 windshield with rain sensor mount or sell that mirror and get one from a car that doesnt have a rain sensor.

found another thread, it seems that someone else has already done what i've done, but the mounting base isn't sold separately by audi...i need to find a used one...

My b6 had the same mirror as my b7 I'm pretty positive... minus the compass I guess...

The autodimming needed power and uses that larger mount I believe.

I put one from a B7 into my B6. The B7 DIDNT have rain sense though. That may be your issue.

so i just installed my compass mirror, do i need to do anything special to make the compass turn on? the harness was already in my headliner so i just pulled it out and plugged it into the mirror...not sure if it needs to be VAG'd or if it is just plug and play...

When I installed my auto dimming compass mirror, the wiring harness was already installed in the roof, like you found, however, the lower end of the harness in the lower left kick panel connection station was not connected to power. You need to connect the lower end of the harness to power in the left lower kick panel connection station. Refer to the wiring diagrams for the Auto dimming inside mirror.

I inserted a pin into an empty connector at T17f.

replied! i just ran out and snapped a photo, i couldn't discern anything that looked like the harness i found in the headliner...

T17f shown on the wiring diagram, is the Orange connector. The Black-Blue wire at T17f/3 is the wire from the mirror. The mating side of the T17f/3 terminal is empty. That is the terminal that is connected to power at the fuse shown when the auto dimming mirror is factory installed.

Iirc tap t17f/3 to a switched 12v. Ie.: reverse lights. Fuse 30 iirc

Now retrofit sideview auto-dimmings, I have a diy in the B7 tech section. (Made with the help of Diagnosticator)

i'm going to disconnect the orange harness tomorrow to examine it closer, i think the wire is already there since i had the harness for the mirror tucked away in the headliner...

i need to see what diagnosticator means by the mating side of the terminal being "empty"...that and i need to marry the harness with the diagram that he sent me so i can figure out what i need to do...

thanks diagnosticator and axis, used a fuse tap and a posi-tap to tap the blue/black wire and all is good with the world!
