Oh snap. I know what I'm doing after lunch.

    Archrenov-

Are you turning in your JSW this year for a 2017 model or are you waiting for a 2018? I'm debating on waiting on a 2018 since I can basically drive the jsw for another year with zero depreciation based in my current mileage and average yearly mileage. Curious if you've considered the same? I believe you had you Wagen a few years earlier than My 2013 though so I'm sure that is a factor for you.

Florett silver, Glacier white , Manhattan grey, and Methos black are the four color options that allow for full body paint, if anyone is interested.

Roughly a $4000 premium over the A4 (in Canada).

I was just swearing at Audi because they don't offer Brilliant Black in full body paint (which makes zero sense). Guess I will have to have it done outside of Audi as I don't want a metallic black paint.

I don't think they offered non-metallic full body in the current gen either but I can't tell if for the new gen the fender flares will actually match texture or not. Previous gen had a matte finish as I recall and not smooth like the body. Still not sure which I'd prefer, painted or not. When I was shopping around a couple of years ago and considering the allroad, I didn't like the unpainted look but now have gotten to like it depending on the body color.

Which is interesting, because I swear the Gotland Green is in the preview image as full paint, but it isn't one of the 4 color options. I do wonder if the exclusives would be eligible for the full paint option.

Pretty sure the B8s only had 3 color options for full paint (GW; FS; BB) due to the lower cladding requiring a different paint code to match to the body. Not sure about the B9s however.

I believe you're correct in regards to the B8 Paint Finish options.
If Audi actually uses a dark gray or black cladding on the Brilliant Black B9 configuration (which looks like they are) instead of the tonal light grey they used on the B8 for the Brilliant black, than the visual effect should be better. Could probably have the cladding professionally vinyl wrapped a gloss black as well.

You're not alone, that's why they don't sell very well here in the U.S.

On the other hand they can offer better ride, handling and fuel economy that a CUV or SUV. Many smaller wagons have nearly as much capacity as a CUV and some of them (Audi & BMW IMO) look cooler than a CUV (subjective).

The appeal for me, being as I am 5'-6" tall, is the ability to load bikes and kayaks on the roof without a step stool. Makes a huge difference. The interior room is the same as most SUVs.

I went from a '11 Avant to a '14 JSW on a 3 year lease. Two years in now, and I can get out without penalty, with about $3500, plus the other $1k. And I can have all the niceties that I miss, and AWD. I will wait until November for the Season of Audi promo, and likely order then. I should have the money from VW by then as well.

And I don't get the appeal of a sedan. Most sedans would look so much better with a longer roofline in wagon form. Not to mention more room.

That said, I am considering a lightly used A8L sedan (V8) because I predict I won't like the lack of power in the Allroad.

I had an A4 loaner last week and was pleasantly surprised by the drive train mated to the S-tronic. Does it fell like a B8S4 with similar tranny, no, but I wouldn't discount it until you try it out.

    This guy gets it.

I too never understood the appeal of a Sedan over its wagon counterpart. Why wouldn't you want more cargo space, access to the rear from inside the car and better lines all around? To each their own I suppose though, eh MuffinMan?

However I do think there is a fine line between some extra cargo room and everyone pointlessly driving SUV's. The transition from Wagons to SUV's in the US has been (in my opinion) fueled by the "bigger is better" US consumer phenomenon and the realization by car manufacturers that they can charge US buyers more money for a jacked up monstrosity that handles like garbage and has craptastic fuel consumption. The only SUV that ever made any sense in my opinion was the Chevy Suburban, for families that have a ton of kids and pets and have no desire to drive a minivan. All these suburban moms pointlessly driving huge SUV's around are actually a danger on the road - especially when they smash into regular sized vehicles.

Now back to the topic at hand - the B9 Allroad! I noticed in the online configurator that the US orange reflectors have been removed from the headlight housings for the B9. Will make removing/covering much easier than dealing with removal and replacement of the entire headlight housings (like on the previous gen).

So you are allowed to dislike wagons but I cannot dislike sedans? That is messing with you? Just trying to explain the other side. How well do SUVs/CUVs sell in the US? Very wagon-esque to me.

Will-do. Definitely something about the A8 interior size that is just spaceship-like. It is a feel you don't get in the A4/A6 but always open to options!

I am so with you. My last sedan was an '86 Audi 5000, followed by a '91 SAAB 9000 hatchback. After a few SUVs, I basically only consider wagons, and always wonder why anyone would settle for the confines of a sedan. Just doesn't make sense- so inflexible. But maybe its that I demand s much more versatility in my vehicles than a sedan could ever offer. A hatchback comes close, if you can ride with the rear open, but that doesn't work for vacations with gear and the dogs.

It is pointless arguing over esthetics... this is all purely personal opinion and tastes. I prefer the sedan form. Others prefer the wagon form. I personally have no need to haul anything around in my cars except people. I have another vehicle better suited for hauling stuff around, and I don't have a daily-driver requirement to take a refrigerator and dogs with me in the back to work.

Well, as an architect, I often find myself throwing samples, sometimes bulky, in the back, or picking up special materials for a project, so I am frequently (like at east once a week) folding one or both rear seats forward, and occasionally riding with the rear gate open.

    1) I rarely need the storage space provided by a wagon.
    2) I think that wagons are generally uglier than sedans.
    3) Wagons are heavier.
    4) Wagons are normally several thousand dollars more expensive.

Most people seem to have tremendous difficulty understanding that their situation and preferences are not necessarily representative of those of the general population.

I didn't argue that wagons are not useful to anyone; I was providing an example as to why some people may "settle for the confines of a sedan." The small but vocal group of American wagon extremists is even more sensitive than the shrinking number of MT enthusiasts.

Not sensitive, vocal. We have to be given we're fighting to be heard and fighting to receive options from manufacturers.

Nobody is trying to convert anyone. But we are going to say something if people come into a WAGON thread and say "I just don't get the appeal of wagons."

I don't care for the Q5 but I would never go into a Q5 thread and say "What's the appeal of a Q5?" I will never understand some people's behavior.

I am in the UK on vacation for another 10 days, and on this side of the pond, wagons (estates, as they are called here) seem to be more popular than sedans (saloons). And there are so many choices from just about every manufacturer. It is wagon heaven.

Argh, another reason to hate CUV / SUV's. The allroad is going to be as much as the S4 when it comes out without the finer upgrades in the S4...

Almost $60k Cdn for the Allroad I want ( Technik + Manhattan full body + Sport package). You can get a SQ5 for that price, including the 100hp performance boost...hopefuilly one comes up in 2-3 yrs off lease...

Update: Audi of Manhattan has two that got delivered on Thursday. I'm going to swing by there this week and take a spin. They are premium plus trim w/tech package. Will post pix. Request anything you want to see and I will try and get.
