    Apr Stage 1 issues

    Hey guys,

So I just flashed my car to APR stage 1 yesterday (which I got an amazing deal with) and I've been having a few issues. First issue happened almost instantly after the tune, the PCV crankcase hose keeps popping off from the clip. It makes the car go crazy and have super rough idling and no power. The second issue is when I was testing out the power gains. After going on S mode, I was basically flooring it and when it came to shift from 2nd to 3rd gear, it was really rough and made the whole car jerk. I tested it out and it happened multiple times. I don't have any other mods in the car, Except for the Forge DV spacer. I've tried doing some research and came up empty. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

for (2) search for transmission adaptation reset. The transmission keeps track of how you drive to provide smooth shifts.
If you change something significant like get a tune, it will be off for a while until it re-learns or you reset the adaptation. Also try sport mode.

Ok cool I was a little worried that my car's tranny couldn't handle it or something. I'll try to get my hands on a VCDS to do an adaptation reset.

You can also unplug the battery for 20 minutes to reset the adaptation i had heard... assuming you dont find a vcds cable.
As for the PCV, yea mine blew up also but ive had my tune for a while.

On the B8/8.5 the PCV is problematic, Audi actually offered to pay to have mine replaced last year. Of course until I got a code for fault air valve or something then my mechanic swapped the PCV... I forgot how fast the car was without a blown PCV... it was a noticeable gain in power after the new PCV.
Its also sometimes called an oil separator in our cars.

Another problem you may eventually have is the DV may blow out depending how many miles you already have and whether its the newer revision D diverter valve.

So I went to car and did a quick scan with the Carista app. Here's what I got

Would this be caused by the tune? Will I pass CA emissions with the tune? I have the stock DP.

Also would removing the forge DV spacer help at all?

I don't think it should be showing the "not ready" readings with a stage 1 tune. Is there a possibility that the shop mistakenly flashed you with a stage 2 tune?

If you just got flashed yesterday then chances are you've not driven the car enough to have the readiness codes set to pass.

That being said as well, I believe the readiness codes won't show they've passed unless you're in stock mode and once again driven enough miles to set the readiness (unless you force it with VCDS). I'll have to test my theory out and scan my Stage 2+ when I get a chance, but from what I've read on the interwebz that's the case.

    Update:

I did get into contact with APR, and they did confirm that I am on stage 1. So we can cross that off the list. I'm going to drive it for a bit more and see if that takes care of the issue.

I have another question. Would a DV spacer be affecting my cars performance at all with this tune? I feel like I'm not getting much out of the tune as far as power gains.

    1. - Did you get program switching feature when you had the APR stage 1 flashed? Meaning can you put the car back in stock mode with the cruise control set button?

    2. - Readiness codes take some time and miles to become ready. However you may need to be in stock mode to set readiness anyway... I cant imagine a Cali APR dealer not flashing at least 2 programs given the testing in that state... stage 1 and stock, maybe call the APR dealer that did your reflash to ask?

    3. - Since the spacer blows off to atmosphere and your car is equipped with a MAF, its possible this is causing a problem... mainly it increases turbo lag since the factory K03 DV dumps directly in front of the Compressor wheel on the cold side of the turbo.

    Update:

    1. Just tested out the emissions today and it now says "ready" so I guess all is good.

    2. I will be removing the spacer tomorrow. Hopefully I can find the stock bolts

Does everyone normally have issues with stage 1 APR or it's just a normal operation for the car to behave like that with the tune?

I'm pretty sure it's just like a breaking in thing. My car is getting better by the day. Adjusting to the tune and all

This is all weird. My car drove perfect the second I drove away from the tuning shop after getting my stage 1. Likewise with stage 2. Any luck with removing the spacer?

Ended up picking up a coworkers shift yesterday and didn't have time. I'll be removing it in a few hours
