V6T Badge issue

Anyone see this before when debadging their V6T in prep for the supercharged badges? No matter what I do (at home ) the outline is there. It's baked right into the clear coat. Going to have to have a detailer give it a deep Compound or wet sand it out. One side was a breeze and the other side had hard clear outlines. Maybe factory pressed on before Clear coat cured?

That happened to me with my Subaru WRX STi when I debadged it. Its usually because the rest of your finish has sunfaded to an extent and thats fresh paint under the badges. I left my Subaru outside a few weeks and the letters disappeared.

The car is mostly garaged and only 16 months old. Weird that it would be one side. And it's not just a fade. I run my tiger over it and can feel the raised lettering. That would be great if that worked tho!!

Wow, that is quite unusual. Will your new badges cover it up enough to not have to worry to much about the old outlines?

The supercharged badges cover it up quite a bit but not fully. I'm sure a pro detailer can fix it up a bit. Just need to find time to do that

It could have been repainted at the port, but I am not sure that is the case.

I've seen this several times before detailing cars. It's a chemical reaction from the adhesive that caused it. The clear coat is etched. I can't tell how deep it is but it looks pretty deep thus I would not advise sanding it down flush. You'd need to have a detailer take a paint thickness inside and outside of it before safely proceeding.

Thanks for the detail, that sounds plausible. More so than it was repainted. The pictures make it look a lot worse than it is. Just needed a good angle to get it to show properly lol. In person it doesn't feel super deep but I'll have someone look at it. Otherwise I'll just slap the supercharged badges over it and no one will notice it but me if I scrutinize it at the exact angle.

That does like it has bean put on a car that has had some pain work done.
Can you feel it when you run a a finger over the area ?

Good call. Clear coats are only about as thick as a post-it note and once you burn through that it's re-spray time.

Probably, but also may be worth too many brain cells to try and get anything done I'm sure a detailer can do a lot for it, even if not perfect. And since I'm rebadging the the supercharged badges , most of the area will be recovered and not exposed anyway

It's a matter of principle for me of course.

Quite common, just needs a cut and polish. Any worthwhile detailer will have a paint meter and can validate if it has been re-sprayed.

So do u mean it's common that it was re sprayed or common the issue I have.

The hologram itself. Respray I can't comment. I would still recommend having the paint thickness checked as a first step.

I don't have an orbital, so nothing powered. I have tried:
- Goo Gone (which got the glue off easy on the driver's side) What's left isn't adhesive though. Its rock hard.
- rubbing alcohol
- Meguire's rubbing compound applied by hand with a cloth and buffed off by a microfiber towel
- a wet magic eraser that works on everything (given it is essentially a 3000-5000 grit sand paper) but only briefly in a corner given I don't want to mess anything up.
- a dab of professional nail polish remover (nearly pure acetone) for a few seconds on a corner before washing it off profusely to make sure it didn't sit on the clear coat and damage the paint.

The cumulative of the above made it better than it was, but it seems it needs to be buffed out with an orbital and compound, or maybe even a proper wet sanding. I just don't know how to do either of these (although youtube is my friend and the compounding part doesn't seem overly difficult for such a small area). Frankly I just wont have the time til next weekend to go see a detailer and see if they can resolve it given I work until 5-6PM and this weekend I'm away with friends for a bachelor party (WOOT!).

I just hate waiting. Would love to get it addressed ASAP lol.

Also, I did wash it in between each step and also at the end, and throw a coat of carnuba wax on it to make sure it was protected until its fixed.

Also, just to add with the rubbing compound. I literally applied it like wax and then wiped it off. that's why it likely did nothing!!

So a big thanks to King's mobile auto detailing in mahopac NY for coming by my house tonight and having a look at it. It was very bad he said. Etched fully through the clear coat. He had to go down to 1000 grit paper for the wet sand to get it 95% out. He didn't want to go further down given how much CC needed to be removed to get it to where it was. After a nice compound, polish and wax it Looks 100 times better. You can't see it at all unless u really look for it at certain angles and in certain lighting. The most pronounced part is at the corner of the V which will be completely covered by the red portion of the supercharged badge.

What a head ache. How it got that way I don't know. And may never. Here are a few pics in different lighting.
