Replacing Oil Cooler gaskets + more on my B6 S4, (2005 Avant V8) Need help.

Hello, everyone and happy Labor Day. I'm in the process of removing the radiator and radiator support in order to reveal the front end of the engine. However, having trouble disconnect a line that connects to the radiator. I was curious if I need a special to to remove this connection? Any insight helps. I'll attach a link to a picture of the connection. Thanks to all in advance.

Here's an imgur link: https://imgur.com/a/fbpCM (I hope that's allowed.) I've removed the pin but simply won't budge. It is a simple pull away connection once the pin is removed?

Going to break down as much as I can to fix this leaking beast.
Also, what sort of problems lead to a red oil pressure light on the dashboard? I've driven it for about a month with the light since it is my only means of transportation. (I know I know, that's a bad idea but no engine-threatening issues.. yet) I just got to opening it apart and I believe the leak is coming from the oil cooler. It's making my engine look real messy. The light turns on and off at random times which is weird. It'll stay on for a cool minute but let's say I hit a small bump or something, the red oil pressure light goes away. I'm starting to believe that it may also be a faulty sensor. Hopefully.
    Thanks everyone.

The front end of the B6 has two connections to the radiator. lower left (driver side) and upper right (passenger side). Sounds like you got the bumper off already so let me get you some pictures for where the radiator hoses connections are...

my connections were a little hard to get off but doable. wiggle and it should come off.

Thanks so much the reply and the pictures, AllroadMass. They are definitely useful and will be handy. So the connection I am struggling with must definitely be something else. Like a transmission fluid line or something of the sort...

I have the bumper off and the radiator support (including the main radiator) suspended in mid air. The only thing holding it in place and the support I have keeping it off the ground and that exact line. It's becoming a little of a nuisance as I need to be able to get to the front of the engine lol

I rested mine on the snub mount and then put a small bucket underneath it all to support the majority of the weight. If the connections are not coming out nicely, I sometimes put a flat head on it and tap it lightly. That might break the hose free.

if you have an automatic transmission then there are also connections on the radiator for the trans cooler. sorry I'm not sure how to remove it but maybe try looking for a connection right at the radiator itself. good luck with that oil pressure issue. The oil pressure sensor is on the back of the oil filter housing and is a common source of leaks so maybe you're lucky and it's just that.

Yes, thanks for letting me know. I just checked and there seems to be oil and residue accumulating right over a connection. I hope it's the sensor. Looks like it's coming from the driver side valve cover. Going to dig further when I have a chance.

Yes that clip is for one of the transmission cooler lines. This is what it looks like when apart: http://i.imgur.com/VeFESm0.jpg

    Yes.

If you think it is your oil cooler, I just did mine. Let me know if you need any help. Although from your OP it sounds like a sensor is going out on you.

Hey, Badger. Thanks for the help. Seems like I just need more force then. And wow, happy you managed to get to that leak. Is your car leak free now? Another question, how'd you find out it was your oil cooler? Oil has been getting on the serpentine belt and making it fly at all angles, making my engine dirty and overall more difficult to pinpoint. Was yours splattering every where as well?

While you have the oil cooler out, check out the condition of the 3 small coolant hoses that are tucked in that space (two connect to the alternator, one goes from the block to the oil cooler). you might want to replace them.

i had the same oil leak you do, and two of the hoses got soaked in oil and degraded. one burst and i was suddenly hemorrhaging coolant

here are the parts i ordered:

Well, I had already done all the other leaky gaskets within the past year (valley pan, valve covers, oil filter, etc) so that ruled out a lot. I had a "drip" in that area. It was either that or the pan gasket. But I figured if it was the pan gasket it wouldn't get flung all over the front and just be dirtying up the underside.

I am happy to report I am pretty sure my car is oil-leak free now, finally. For the time being lol.

And word of warning, per b57's last link, that little coolant hose on the backside of the alternator was a real PITA to get off since it had one of the crush hose clamps and I could not get anything back there to loosen it up.

I have changed out the oil check valve kit already, so the pan is new and torqued to spec. my front side is sloppy as hell with oil, I am assuming this is from this exact issue. will do this and clean the front end up and see what happens, the small leak I notice seems to be coming from that side as well. so kind of pointing in that direction.. fun times ahead I see.. Thanks for the DIY's also.

What's the easiest way of getting behind the oil filter housing other than removing the engine? I do plan on replacing the valve cover gaskets. I want a better look at the residue to make sure it is in fact messing with the oil pressure sensor. Does anyone have a picture of the sensor or the neighborhood around it? It would help immensely, thanks

Here is a crappy pic to locate it (wiring harness removed). You can definitely get to it without pulling the engine, but there is a lot of stuff to work around. If you are doing the valve cover gaskets most the stuff in your way will be gone anyway so it shouldn't be too bad,
