2003 a6 2.7T No Cranking after secondary water pump change job

Hello every one. This is my first post in Audizine so happy to find such informative place to know about audi and its repairs.

The problem with my 2003 2.7T a6 is that engine won't crank but starter seems to be spinning (free spin sound from where the starter is located). I know taking the starter off is really a very hard job, already tried and the upper bolt head is in a very tight place. Before taking the starter out, I would like to eliminate any other possibilities.

The starter was working no problem when the secondary water pump went out. I went ahead and changed it in my garage. To replace it I had taken out the serpentine and timing belt. I also took the intake manifold off for easy access to clean around. I have not reached the starter in that job at all. I have, however, changed the crankshaft sprocket's seal since I notices it was leaking. The job took me a good amount of time since I was working on it in my free time and because of having to wait for parts to ship. It took around 2 months or so. I also took the alternator out to clean around it. This was the closest to the start as far as I remember.

I put everything back (except for the coolant (was actually thrown all out by the broken pump) ) and wanted to check if the thing will at least start but engine won't crank. A mechanic told me that starters of this audi will fail if car is parked for long time but not sure how valid his assumption is.

My question is what other possibilities than the starter its self going bad that can lead to this no-crank issue? If you think it is the starter needing to be replaced, what is the "easiest way to get it out"? When I tried to break loose the upper bolt, I used an impact driver with a right angle attachment and the bolt won't break loose. The impact is pretty strong, however, the right angle attachment sucked out most of the torque, so only little was reaching the bolt head (I tested it on my wheel lug nuts).

Any clue? I will certainly appreciated hints and help.

    Thanks is advance.
