Requesting Insight On Sport Seats Pls:

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Currently in a mk7 and really considering moving onto an s3. I know the car well except for a couple things as my brother has one already. My main concern is with the seats!

In my GTI, the front seats are amazing vs. the standard 8v. I would characterize the difference as sitting "in vs on" the seat. My question is for those who have sat in a GTI/R and have "Sport" seats in the 4 ringed car. Looking for thoughts and impressions. Local dealers don't have any on their lots at the moment with the option for me to try out in person until the arrival of the MY'17.

    Thanks in advance.

I opted out of the sports seats for the fact they are non electric manual seats. It was a hard decision as they are super nice and high you well. Plus you get the extended leather on the doors and center console. However after having the car 2 months the regular electric sport seats are good so far and offer an ample amount of bolster.

My S3 has the standard sport seats.
If you are 6'1+ it is getting tight with head room. However the super sports seat don't go lower either, I sat in them too... and both will not suffice in terms of 'holding you' on a track (I use a Sparco Evo 2 for track days).
I had a firmer, better fit in my 2010 Golf TDI sport seats.
So in the end its a question of your taste and if you want to spend the extra money.

The sport seats aren't great. They just look good. They have much worse bolstering than the gti

That being said. The diamond stitch and extended leather is well worth it. Would do it again

I have them in my S3. Look great. Only negative is the lack of headroom. At 6'0 Im maxed at headroom. No way Id be able to wear a helmet if I needed.

I also have regular seats and it provides ample support.

Thanks for the responses! I should say I'm short btw.

My brother has the standard seats and I can say that it's my main complaint on the car when comparing to my GTI. The GTI's are a perfect fit and hold you "in". I don't track, but do get on it and really like molding in as it feels like you're driving and not coasting. Did some more reading on these and it doesn't seem the the thigh bolsters are much greater than the standard seats, or at least in the pics. I sat in one, but it was a while ago.

That said. I started looking at some after-market options that can recline. I think a brand called Cypher? I'm not looking for a super aggressive bucket and wouldn't want to keep swapping seats out. Just something that makes the car more fun. Generally, seats that match the cockpit feel of the car and are similar in effect to my current experience. S3 definitely needs an RSB to liven up the roll, I can say that :)

If the GTI seats are anything like the MK7 golf R seats, the Golf R seats are better bolstered and I think more comfortable. I do not regret getting the sport seats bc I think they look awesome but the Golf R seats are prettttttty hard to beat

i opted out of the sport seats as i was not thrilled about people saying the leather shows wear and tear pretty quickly. im satisfied with the standard s3 seats and i like the no charge red leather option.

I bought the super sport seats, just cause Diamond stitching and look like an ACTUAL S model seat vs the standard seats.

The bolstering on the SS seats isn't terrible, but keep in mind few leather seats hold you well on aggressive driving or the track unless they're racing seats with a vertical side. If the seats were cloth or had alcantara centers, they'd be great. I do find though that you sit "in" not "on" the seats as was the case with some previous Audis I've owned.

It's no track seat, but I guess I just fit it really well. I find it supportive, the extension is nice, and I'm not super tall.

I drove both and found the Sport seats to be more comfortable and a bit more supportive for aggressive driving. I don't find them any worse than Golf R seats.
