    Audi Design Selection

So I'm a bit confused and frustrated at the moment. I'm a previous 16' A7 owner and am now looking to go 17' S7. My 16 was a glacier white prestige plus a7 with nougat brown interior. While i've decided to go with a different exterior color, I've been firm on wanting a brown interior in my S7. I am well aware that the S7 interior options do not include nougat brown. I therefore decided that if that was something that was truly not an option, that I would then go with an exclusive color interior such as cognac brown. So I contacted two of my local SA to see who could get the car priced out and etch out a good deal for me. I emailed a guide with all options selected and color options I wanted. I contact my SA to see if he was able to get the vehicle priced out. He said, no. According to him they called to see about getting the cognac brown done but the only design selection color available to the S7 is Arras red.... All other colors are only available to the base A7 model...First of all, I'm not understanding why a base interior color is not offered in the S7. Secondly, if it's not why not make the design selection an available option for those willing to pay? Can someone who has had any experience with Audi design, preferably the interior, confirm the validity of this statement?

    Simple answer: Operating cost.

Long answer: I was told it's has to deal with the program operation cost and overall custom demand for the model. When it comes to demand, A8 is number one followed by the R8, RS7, S8.

I would suspect that customers wanting to spend loads of money customizing a sportback, they would chose the RS7 over the S7, 9:1.

I understand your frustration, especially when all of the 7-lines are made in the same factory in Neckarsulm.

I'm with you on the interiors. I'm new to the s7 world, but I have to say that the interior selections are very bland/boring. I was between getting and rs7 and an s7. I found a lightly used s7 with an Audi exclusive interior that dressed up the inside a bit - so I went that route. At least they have arras red - but that doesn't look good with every exterior color and it's not to everyone's liking. Audi give us more options for interior on a 100k car!

Yeah. I suppose the operation cost statement makes sense. But like you also said, they are all produced in the same factory so not understanding what the big deal is. But yeah, I find the interior options very boring. Arras is just a bit too flashy for me. I like the subtle yet slightly unusual option of the nougat brown/cognac brown options. Plus, I'm not a huge fan of carbon inlays. But to be perfectly honest, if the arras red interior came with a one of the wood options if still possibly consider it. But the carbon in lay just isn't my style. I lik the idea of a sublte sedan with the bells and whistles of a coupe. That being said, I like the options of the base vehicle but would love to upgrade to the higher horse power but looks like I won't be doing that. Or might just have to go take a look at the 6 series again.

Seats most likely made somewhere else, the seat covers are made at different place for sure.

Also S7 & RS7 seats are all Leather, A7 seats are Vinyl / Leather combination, I think this main reason for so few options on S7 / RS7.

Have you try ordering the interior going through Audi Exclusive, not just the "Audi Design Selection"?

Going thru Audi Exclusive (For AE Interior, you pay an AE fee of $1200 on top of what AE leather package you ordered), you work with a dedicated Audi Exclusive Department to tailor your interior. I had mine tailored with specific color, stitchings, materials.

The possibility is endless...for example, each piece of leather on the seat can be of different colors.

Aren't audi exclusive and design selection the same? I've used the terms interchangeably. When I went up to the dealer to discuss this originally he provided me with a book of exterior and interior color options. But then when I followed through for pricing, he contacted them and was told it wasn't available for the S7 other than Arras red. So if I'm missing something please let me know.

Audi exclusive is the original custom anything you want from Germany and many countries other than US had for quite a while. I think some markets in the US have it now but is pricey and some dealers won't even offer it.
Design selection is the very limited option "exclusive" marketed in the US which in this case is the Arras red interior. I think on the A8 it was a brown and white interior.

You all are right. Confirmed with the SA. I'm not sure why he didn't make that distinction. As I said, he provided me with the exclusive swatches and I made clear I was interested in the cognac brown color which is only available through exclusive as far as I know. Anyway, I'm gong in to the dealership sometime this week to build out a car. I really don't want anything fancy though. I really just want brown color seats like I'd get in a base model. No special stitching, no dashboard stuff. No extras. But we'll see how it goes
