    FMIC Recommendation

    Hi all,

I haven't found any recent posts on FMIC and just wondering what are the highly recommended FMICs at this moment.

    I appreciate any inputs.

IMO, I like APR or AWE, I have AWE. Havent felt heatsoak since I bought it when going stage 2. There are a few others depending on budget, byt for the money now I think APR put out a fine FMIC.

I have eurocode with all the related plumbing and it fits & works very well. The APR tech that installed my K04 and the FMIC was impressed with the fitment.

Or wait until somebody on the classifieds sells a direct fit. I literally bought a damn near new EC with the plumbing for near this price.

It seems with the price of $250, it doesn't come with all the tubing and hoses. So it is not a complete intercooler kit. Am I understanding this correctly?

Thanks all for the reply. I am assuming all recommended FMIC are compatible to k04 turbo?

Am I looking at 4-5 hours labor for installation as well?

I just realized you are in NYC. I would recommend you go to Eurotech Motorsports and order either Awe or APR through them. Last time I remember if you order through them, you get a pretty good discount on labor. For the money right now I would go APR, but thats just my opinion.

I have sent them an email and still waiting for a response from them.

Anyway I guess it is not wise to have any shop to do the intercooler swap if the shop has never done it before. I went to my local shop and they asked for $500 for the swap. I believe they have never done it before.

Give them a call, tell Danek you were referred to them from Audizine. I would NOT recommend going with a shop you deem questionable, and for comparison sake I paid $500 for my Ko4 install which is way more labor intensive than an FMIC. Keep us posted!

Oz, I think I will bug you until I am happy with how my car perform on the street. LOL

I believe you have done all the upgrades on your car and I have so many questions on turbo kits, tunes, FMIC, etc. I hope you don't mind. LOL

I think right now I just want to get the FMIC done on my car.

No it doesnt. All you need is some elbows clamps and a ss coupler. The othr ic 3 hoses dont make a difference. Couple that with a soundbox delete and youre good to go.

I have the ecode silicone hoses and their hfip. Doesnt do much, if anything and cost me over $400.

I personally have the Forge kit. Expensive? Yes. Worth it? Absoloutely!

However if I were to do it again, I may opt for a tr8 or tr11, but maybe not.... The perfect OEM fitment of the Forge, along with it's massive core and full aluminum piping/ silicone kit make it an awesome package.

Old but one of the most informative threads on intercoolers for our cars, it turns into a Treadstone love fest toward then end, but that's to be expected because its a great piece of kit.

I'll add that in my experience, the TR8 holds it's own against the larger IC's like APR's or EC. My fastest trap-speed in my AR on HPA's K04 setup is 107.39mph and that was in 80+ degree summer heat with the TR8. Had the temps been cooler or I ran the TR11, I am certain I could have gained another 1-2mph. We'll see how the AR does when I run it again in October, that is IF I still have it by then.

If you actually read through the latter parts, that thread is where I asked most of my info when I was looking for a good FMIC.

I was looking at this FMIC comparison thread. I'm not sure whether we are referencing the same thread.

I'm surprised that APR FMIC is not part of comparison. http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...parison-thread

They are closed today brother, Danek is on vacation in Miami. I used to work graveyard and would just go there after work, I would be laid out on one their comfy chairs mouth wide open, lol. Come to think of it, slept a good 2-3 hours when they were doing my AWE Fmic. Lol.

I can see that the good thing about living in NJ. No wonder no one responded to my email or my FB message. But their business hour does pose a problem for me. I was just wondering if I can swap the FMIC myself. I just spent 1.5 hour to change the air filter, plugs and coil on my car. I have never worked on my car before. So I feel it is a big accomplishment. Now I may want to try DIY a little more. LOL

Does the car needs to be lifted up? I found the DIY thread of removing the front bumper for a RS4 grille. I didn't find a step by step DIY thread for installing APR FMIC.

There are a lot of nuts and bolts on the bumper. You guys want to come and give me a hand? I don't want to see a pile on nuts on the ground after the bumper is back. LOL

It's easy man, just don't over think it. If it helps you, get a piece of cardboard, shove the bolts through it as you go and label them.
