Angry Clutch Problems All New Clutch, Slave, Master, Ect... B5 S4

    Hi Audizine,
So I am just trying to get some ideas of what I can do/try before I take the transmission out of my car... So about a year ago, 5k-10k miles ago, I froze my clutch disk to the flywheel, so I went ahead and replaced my clutch with an AMD Stage 2 kit, resurfaced a different OEM flywheel, TB, Idler Bearing, USP metal slave cylinder and stainless line, I even bought brand new bolts for everything...

My issue is this, about a week ago I had to make a 60 mile trip to the air port and back. Once I got to the air port I noticed my car was starting to have some issues getting into gear, this issue got worse on the drive back until I couldn't shift using the clutch while driving. I would have to start in first gear with the car off and get moving while starting, in other words my clutch went out. You can get into all the gears with the car off as well as I can press the clutch in and the car will move forward but it won't die if I force it to not move by holding the brakes. I pressure bled the system a couple times and every time after the bleed the clutch would work perfect for the very first press of the pedal to start the car, also the system wasn't leaking at. I could move it and shift to all gears, however after that it was just as bad as before and the clutch would be basically useless...

So being that literally the only part not replaced on my car was the clutch master cylinder, I replaced that with a FTE OEM one and nothing changed. I did not bench bleed either the master or slave cylinder because online I read you don't need to. At this point all pieces on the car are new and I still have the problem and unsure what to do...

Side note I took the slave off the car and inspected it and all seemed well except for the crappy "wire-style" c-ring that holds the piston in looks like it possibly was pressed out slightly and I found a little brake fluid on that the boot but that could just be from bleeding it. Ill have that all reassembled with a proper c-ring and back in the car tonight.

Any help or advise on what I should do would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks, Zack

Have you figured out this issue yet? I’m having the exact problem new slave, new line, new clutch, new pressure plate, new tob and now when I came out of 5th to down shift I couldn’t get it into any gear if I shut car off I can put it in first and push down on clutch and start the car and while clutch is still pushed down car will jerk forward a little and stop

Hay team have you tried re doing the shifter links?
Have a look the join in the clutch line rubber bit. And the joints. I think there's a nuther piston type we're the clutch pedal is.

what Mark says.. check your shifter alignment. If the bolts are loose to the linkage or the shifter is not lined up correctly, the car will not go into gear. this vid has some better info

I had a similar problem. Car would have trouble shifting while on. I also replaced my clutch slave. Here is what i did(you may have done some already).

    1. Bleed the clutch slave

    2. Make sure the clutch pedle is coming ALL the way back up upon taking your foot off. This is what might be causing you not to go into gear while its on but working while its off. I would get down there and pull it up with your hand untill it comes up level with the gas pedle.

    3. If that dosent fix the problem mess around w ur shifter. The shiftet is a huge pain in the ass and i totally forget how i got mine right. Take what you read with a grain of salt. Everybody has their own method. I find that its 'okay' to have the bottom hex of the shifter a little bit to the left so that you can access it.

If turning the car off allows you to get into gear its 100% not your shifter alignment, that would make no difference on or off. Its clutch related

I agree. I think he needs to rebleed and make sure the pedal is coming all the way back up.

Im going to ad my 2c. Assuming you have it bled properly and all is installed correctly heres a few things to check.

Was the clutch new? Even if it was new did you check the SAC setting? If tricky you can actually reset without dropping trans.

Inspect clutch fork for bend/crack prior to install? Hopefully not this.

Slave plunger length? Ive seen sometime depending the slave the rod is not equivalent length to stock.

Anyway just some ideas. I dont think its a fused clutch again either by the description. If it were me id get it in the air with a buddy to press the pedal and start excersisg the clutch while inspecting/hand rotating the motor.

There should be a wee wedge in the connection to the gearbox shaft. I had to make mine but has worked.
Hook it up loose then center the shaft tighten bolt then 1st to 6th and then go from there have not drive my car yet need a bit more money to finish it.
