    Muffler Deletes

In searching, AZ and YouTube, I've noticed a lack of info/video regarding muffler deletes and/or custom exhaust in general. My goal is to maintain the stock look (tips, etc) but yet make the car sound like it should have from the factory. A little background, I like loud. On my B7 S4 I was straight from the cats back (x pipe and straight pipe in place of the muffers). I couldn't wipe the smile off my face while driving. The only potential issue I see is the dual inlet to the stock tips. I know some will say it sounds "sloppy" without mufflers and/or resonator but I assure you my S4 sounded great. I assume the sound will be quite similar...

Is anyone running this set up or something similar with stock tips?

    Thanks

    I have a full custom 3" exhaust, with X-pipe, with V-bands.

    No cats, no resonators.

It's essentially straight piped with tiny "race mufflers" about the size of a football.

It's the loudest RS4 I have ever heard. I love it.

The OEM tips were used to keep a factory look:

It's not the best example of it's sound but it will give you an idea:

(Disclaimer: I did beat this Hellcat, but it was 93* F at the track on this night and my first time dragging this car, so the time and speed were pretty sorry - 11.8 @ 119 mph)

Now we're talking. I want to do something similar except keep the stock cats + 2.5 diameter but run no mufflers with an x pipe. I get that's not the best set up performance wise but that's not necessarily why I bought the car. My stage 2 DSG B8.5 was a good deal quicker/faster but the overall experience of the RS, even stock, is worlds better and I love it.

I have a milltek non res exhaust but with stock mufflers. It sounds pretty good. It doesn't have an X-pipe but I will be adding one on.

    I'm local as well.

PS...if anyone is selling milltek mufflers I'm in the market.

If you want a single 2.5inch inlet tip that looks identical to the stock tips, Google search, oval Impala exhaust tip. I believe what comes up in that search are the ones I got from the exhaust shop near me. He had them on a wall display and said they were for an impala. I was having that same problem when I was contemplating custom exhaust. I wanted stock looking tips also.

Find any reputable exhaust shop in the area and I'm sure they can fab that setup for you no problem. I like loud too obviously. It would sound great, IMO.

Thanks, this car has done 11.3 @ 123.14 mph but that was with driver mod and a much better DA.

Ok, you mentioned custom exhausts, so I can't refuse the opportunity to post up the vid of my system (again!)

    https://youtu.be/65SZXj4fTXA

This is a full custom system by a small outfit here in the UK; JC Weldfab.

All mandrel bent, 200 cell sport cats, X-pipe (no centre silencer), valved backboxes, and OEM size tips.

Quiet enough for my kids to sleep in the back when the valves are closed, and sounds like a nascar when the valves are open. It's the perfect setup for what I want.

I recently removed my resonator + muffler and installed 2 small flowmaster super 10 single chamber muffler.

I love it. Everyone loves it. It's loud but amazing.

Yeah definitely get a video. As for myself, I'm still waiting for appointment availability at the shop I go to. The plan is to toss an X pipe in there, replace the stock mufflers with tiny resonators, and then relocate the stock valve all while retaining the OEM tips for the stock look. When the S button is engaged it will essentially be straight piped. Been waiting 6 weeks now... will certainly update when/if this ever gets done .

Still a work in progress, "loud mode" complete. Now driving like this until the shop owner gets back from vacation. At which time he will work on "quiet mode" which will be small resonators on the opposite side. S button engaged = loud mode, resonators bypassed. No S button engaged will flow through the resonators. Sounds rowdy but certainly not something I would want to DD. This next week or so will be interesting lol.

Can't see video. YouTube link me.

Yeah this set up is a bit loud and less refined than I'd like but it will be nice to have as one of my options once the system is finished. The rev matching blips are pretty epic.

Edit: Sounds good. Definitely more civilized than straight pipes. I actually felt like an asshole firing my car up this morning at 6. I'm excited to get the magnaflow resonators in place.

It will be interesting to see how this sounds. With S mode engaged the flaps are open at idle but close again when accelerating, and then they open again depending on speed and load.

Years ago we put exhaust cutouts on my RS4 so I could open the exhaust up or close it by just pushing a button. Here's how it sounded with the cutouts open - mine's the Imola one. The Silver one has the stock exhaust on it.

Sounds good, definitely mean but not too much.

Here's a short clip from yesterday. Definitely a bit snappy. I think it will sound really good when I get the magnaflow resonators put on.

I'll let you know on Friday.

I currently have a milltek catback. I will be vbanding some 2.5" stainless in place of the mufflers so I can switch out the setup on a whim. I have stock cats (for now) and just wanted to experiment given how cheap I got the milltek for and how cheap all of the raw materials were.

I deleted my resonator last weekend, It does in fact give it a more deeper/growl sound, but still not as loud as I would like, I going straight pipe all the way through. #FtheHaters... My buddy owns an S5 (V8) he has straight pipe all the way through, and it sounds amazing.

It will indeed sound awesome. Until the novelty wears off and you start having to deal with the crazy drone between 1.6k and 2k revs!

That's when valved systems start looking really appealing. Liveable for normal driving with valves closed, and bonkers when open.

Finished product. Will take a better video to show valves open vs closed. Very happy with results.

I love this thread. Music to my ears. I switched from milltek to gmg because of the deep tone. After hearing these clips it makes me want to delete the mufflers. It should be simple since its clamped

Here's my clips with the Tubi Rumore, the day after I installed it at Carlisle Import and Performance Nats this spring. Daily driven since may and oh my god, what a beast! Drone is managable, they tuned out a sweet spot between 2500 and 3200 RPM, so its pleasant at highway cruising speeds. It also is very throttle angle dependent. loafing around is pretty damn quiet, but punch it and you will literally set off car alarms. These really are something special!

Valves Closed. S button not pressed.

    Valves open. S button on.

Still want to get better footage. On the rev video you can definitely tell the difference. Unfortunately the driveby videos here are a bit tough to distinguish. I should have taken both videos going up the hill with same amount of throttle input. The valves open was downhill around a little turn with a stop sign coming up lol. Definitely didn't get on it as much as the uphill video.
