Finned oil filter housing = does it equal hype?

So i am looking at replacing my oil filter housing with an aluminum one (mostly because they look nicer, but a bit more robust is a plus as well).

I really hate silver/chrome, so black would be my ultimate choice...which would be the ECS one. However, Spulen makes one that has fins "to help dissipate heat", i know the theory of fins does have merit...but in this application does it have any (even the slightest). I am of the belief that some is better than none (as long as it makes sense...in the example i wouldn't buy this just because it had the fins...but since I am going to replace it regardless it might make sense to go finned than not at all).

If the fins will make unequivocally zero difference...i might as well just go with the black option as it looks better.

It would make sense if this was in direct airflow path, but the fins under the hood will not give you any significant cooling gains.

I would be more concerned about fitment and making sure it wouldn't leak.

Doubt it will do much, but if you really want the fin version, you probably could powdercoat black and have the best of both worlds.

Powder coat, will actually keep heat in.

Well, there is an oil cooler in the front fender, so I think you are overthinking the cooling properties of a oil filter housing on top of the engine. If you really want optimal cooling from the oil filter housing stick with the stock plastic one.

i cannot believe that companies make those things claiming it will cool oil, if the oil temp dropped by .1 degrees i would be amazed

I believe so as well...that is why i wanted to ask. I will be swapping it out either way, as I think the metal ones look a 1000x better...which i stated was my main purpose for a new filter housing
