    CTS or APR Intake

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I recently switched from Stage 1 & 2 APR Carbonio intake to the CTS Turbo intake. Feel no difference, however the sound difference is very noticeable. CTS is MUCH louder.

With this being said... I'd like to hang on to the intake that yields the most HP/TQ gain on my SQ5. Experience or opinion, which one would you all say is the better option?

I live in South Texas where it's HOT and very humid almost all year.

Do you have a vagcom? If so, log the air mass with both. You'll probably find the differences to be negligible. When I switched from a modified airbox to a cts turbo intake, my peak air mass went up, but so did my iats (here in the summer). So it was a bit of a trade off.

From what I've heard, the stock airbox performs better than the CTS. The CTS design seems like it would give warmer air temps.

I know 034 has been working on a new box, but admit the stock one works very well. I'd lean more towards the APR, but I've got no data to back that up. I think finding a real world measurement will be hard, on a dyno an open hood and fans will skew the results.

I can watch the IAT using my P3 gauge and the temp stays right at the outside air temp or a degree under... Which seems normal because how could it be any cooler? (I currently have the CTS installed with the APR sitting in garage.)

    Hmmm... What a dilemma. :P

Yes, the SC whine with the CTS is insane.

Pretty sure we've had this discussion before. The APR isn't an exact fit to the Q5/SQ5. So that may be your answer.

If you like open design stay with what you've got.

I personally chose the AWE S-Flo box with 034 Hose.

An ignorant reply perhaps, but here goes.

Just do what you like. I think the losses/gains with a CAI are so minimal. I currently run the CTS. Love the sound, car is Stage 2+Pulley tuned so it's fast and thats the way I like it.

That's strange. I had the carbonio on my SQ5.. Fitment was spot on.

Same here. I like the CTS I have installed with my stage 2 and 034 intake. Looking into AWE cooling reservoir now to help with heat soak.

I went back and forth with this, CAI for an Audi are expensive, I guess it is the German tax. I ended up reading on the modified stock airbox thread and that the OP ran several test which showed a 1psi increase on the stock airbox. So I went the 034 intake tube hose, AWE S-Flo drop in filter, removed the snow guard and modified the entrance into the airbox and cut open the circular opening. The SQ5 responded very well to those mods, very well. That is the route I went and will stay with. next up is the EPL Stage I and II pulley and tune maybe next year.

Yes, the SC whine with the CTS is insane.
I've got the P3 and was disappointed to learn that the air temperature it shows is at the air intake not IAT after the intercooler. I contacted P3 last spring and they stated they were working on a product that would let users select different data values to display and other features. A couple of weeks ago emailed for an update, they still don't have a release date but it is a product they stated their still working on.

I dont think they are manufacturing it anymore though?
If I have time, HA, im going to manufacture my own.

I've done the same thing. I do know I could get more with a proper airbox. The tune had to be dialed back a bit for the stock airbox.

I have read that there is virtually zero HP/TQ gain from these things.
