Dinan making an S3 exhaust

Just got back from visiting the guys over at Dinan this morning. They did some measurements on my car for an axle-back and cat-back exhaust system they're planning to produce. I'm hoping they'll decide they want to do a down pipe as well in order to get the full turbo back system. Regardless I'm looking forward to seeing what they come up with as they make excellent products for the BMW guys. They also mentioned doing a piggyback but I don't have any details there as it's all very early.

Figured I'd just drop this here to let everyone know. It'll be nice to have another major producer of quality performance parts in the Audi game. More options heading our way soon.

Oh sweet, I'd rock that. Had a Dinan on my E46 M3 and despite the weird outlet configuration, it was the best combo of reasonable volume and performance.

Any idea of an ETA? Do they need more local beta testers? I live like 5 minutes from Dinan.

I would say conservative in some respects, but they are high quality products and a step above APR even. I would say confident too considering they match the factory warranty. Do we have a company that does that for us now?

A friend of mine has their exhaust on his E46 M3 and I totally agree with everything you said. As for whether or not they need more testers; I don't have any info there for you. There currently isn't anything to test just yet. They took measurements this morning so that they can start putting together some prototype pieces for test fitments in a few weeks most likely. You can always reach out to them and see what they say.

The 135i is a SUPER fun car. Bet it sounded great with that 1M exhaust.

Definitely very high quality. I have no doubts that the final product will be very well designed, fabricated, and sound amazing. As far as I know none of the current high quality aftermarket companies (APR, AWE, etc) match factory warranty. To be fair though, Dinan is also in something like 40% of BMW dealerships...so they have very close ties to the company whereas no relationship like that exists in the Audi world. At least not currently.

I spoke with someone at Dinan (I inquired about being a beta tester). They said they're at least 3 months out from offering the exhaust, probably longer. Sounded like they're building a complete line of Audi performance exhausts, not just an S3 exhaust.

Prototypes were finished near the end of October. Production models should start arriving in early December at which point I'll receive mine and have it installed. Will be sure to get some pics and hopefully some quality sound clips. Options on tips are the standard Dinan black or chrome. They mentioned perhaps making bolt on tips in future production runs as opposed to welded on. If they end up doing that they also mentioned perhaps producing a CF tip. Fingers crossed that pans out and that I can have them modify my mufflers to accept the CF tips.

Their S4 exhaust is ready and AZ user Gusman1 got his installed last week. Unfortunately he picked up the car and then left for vacation for 10 days so he didn't have time to get any sound clips. Hopefully he'll post some up soon when he gets back.

There is a chance their piggyback module will be ready by then as well. They already have a few modules available with some decent, but conservative gains. Pricing is very nice if you're looking for a small but noticeable bump that's easy plug and play. I've heard they're also working on suspension components but can't confirm anything there. Also a chance of doing intakes but I think that would be further down the road if the other products do well in sales. I'll find out more when I go back to headquarters in December.

I just spoke with Nathan over at Dinan, and it looks like the production exhaust for the S3 won't be available until late January at the soonest. They will not be making downpipes, so I'll probably pair it with a Neuspeed DP.

Unlikely as that would require software and at this point I don't plan on touching the ECU while I wait to see what pricing looks like on the RS3 and whether or not those horrible headlights end up growing on me. So for the moment I'm trying not to do anything else with the car. "Trying" being the key word as I really want to do some more suspension mods.

I hear you. I was originally planning on getting the RS3, but then I noticed the trade-in value on my car is well below the amount on my lease, and Audi doesn't allow lease liability swaps. So I might just go Stage 2 on my car until the trade-in gets closer to the lease payoff. :)

Yea that game plan makes sense. I don't lease my car so I'll see what the pricing is vs what I think I can get on a sale of my car and make a decision then. I might try to be patient and wait till year 2 of the RS3...not sure how much faith I have in a first year run of a new engine.

Apologies for forgetting to update this thread. I got the exhaust installed a few weeks ago. Doesn't look like Dinan has added the details to their site yet from what I see and I've been slammed these past few weeks with work and travel so I haven't had a chance to do much with the car or make videos. I did meet up with Will for lunch a couple weeks ago and we did a comparison drive of his AWE turbo back to the Dinan cat back. I think we both liked the sound of the Dinan a touch more as it's a bit deeper/more bass, but definitely appreciated the valved aspect of the AWE system at cruising speed. (Will feel free to correct that statement if I misinterpreted)

I have a bit of time this weekend so I'll try to grab some sound clips for everyone.

AWE could be better with less rasp and the Dinan could be better with valves. I like almost all exhausts though, well, except for Armytrix.

LOL. Totally agree with everything about that statement. The Armytrix does however look gorgeous...if for some odd reason you care about your exhaust system looking good.
