Dash tablet mount for Audi A4 B8

    Hi,

Noob here, just purchased a 2012 Audi A4 Quattro sedan without navi and am now looking for a dash mount that can support a 10" tablet and centers it right on the stock screen window. I have failed to find a suction mount that stays on this car's rough (porus?) dash and do not want to stick a mounting disk due to the fear of glue melting all over the dash on hot days. Also, none of the available clean mounts allow me to center as above. I was very excited when I bought this Ppyple DAST-NT mount since it suits my needs perfectly except it wouldn't stick at all to the dash. Not even for a sec and not even by itself!

    Please suggest something!

    Thanks!

You can get touch screen overlays that fit on top of the existing screen.
Whilst I'm not suggesting you fit one of them (as you plan to use a tablet), you could try the same principle - i.e. remove the trim surrounding the screen and insert maybe a clear piece of perspex, before refitting the trim.
The perspex should hopefully give you the surface you need to fix your mount, whilst still leaving the underlying stock screen visible when you need it.

I can't seem to find a rationale behind sticking a tablet for just the navigation but whatever the reason you may have, I think I can help.

In my case I use a magnetic car mount, which fits on the air vent, to place my phone. It comes with two different magnetic plates - one for phone (circular), another for a tablet (rectangular). From what I can see, this magnet actually holds the device VERY well and doesn't let it slip.
You may want to remove your tablet cover/case, if you have any, to increase the magnetic grip

Here is the link. I have used both iPhone 6S and 6S+ with the phone covers ON and they worked perfectly fine. You could give this magnetic grip a try - just $9 though :)

Hmmm......great ideas, thanks! The magnetic mount will cover the vents but I am gonna definitely try it first. My A4 doesn't have MMI so tablet will also let us watch videos in addition to GPS on long trips. Actually I don't intend to have the tab in there at all times since I am using the SD card slot on the radio for all MP3s and the phone only BT in the car for handsfree. I just bought a tune2air BT thing and it works perfectly with the tab A (no unsightly wires; tab keeps charge for a long time).

If the tab mounting doesn't work out, I am contemplating of installing a Chinese GPS unit like this one. Seems pretty invasive, kinda afraid....

They look kind cool but I can see why you're afraid of them lol, I would be interested to know if anyone has tried installing something like this in a B8, as it looks too good to be true for the price...

Chinese GPS units are pretty good in terms of functionality. I purchased similar 7" navigation units in 2002 (no touch screen) and 2005 (touch screen) for Honda Accord and they worked great. Would play DVD/MP3/MP4/Video_ts/radio/bluetooth/SD card/backup cam etc; would even receive analog OTA TV (before they switched to digital)! It was quite easy to swap the radio in that car and they came with everything needed. But I see its very invasive in A4 B8. Since I just bought this car, I will manage with the Tab for GPS/videos but in few years, I am definitely replacing the stock radio. BTW, thanks to absolutarin the Tab is working with two magnetic vent mounts for occasional use but sometimes it slips a little and I may have to add two more mounts.

I just purchased a backup camera setup for my '14 A4. My A4 didn't have the tech package which included Nav and BUC. I had to remove the screen to connect this unit into it. I can tell you it's really not all that bad. The kit came with nylon tools for removing the dash. I found that pulling out the radio and heater/AC controls were very easy. Just take you time and they pull out nicely. Only a couple of screws had to be removed at all and again very easy to get at. The key is how well the kit is designed to "plug & play" with the native car's electronics.

Agree with the perfect kit compatibility concern. For this chinese GPS installation, radio unit, ac vents, screen and glove box come off. They say don't turn the unit on during installation or it will throw some codes!
