Hello everyone. So I've been a long time lurker here. I usually would come to check out the classifieds when looking for another car. So, here is the story of how I got into Audi. Sorry if it is a long story.
I've always been a Saab guy. I've owned a number of 9-5s (3) and 9-3s (3) throughout the years (currently 26) and just made the switch to Audi. My younger brother purchased his Ming Blue b6 a4 quattro 5MT back in the summer of 2012. He got a great deal on it and he was thrilled with his purchase. He was 18 or 19 when he got it and needed a daily driver because he couldn't drive his bike in winter (we're from PA and do a lot of snowboarding). In June of 2014 he passed away due to a motorcycle accident (someone pulled out in front of him). We all were devastated as I'm sure you can imagine. I owned a 2010 saab 9-3 2.0T that I would do some mods to. Great daily driver. Two months after he passed, I saw found a dream car of mine - 2000 Saab 9-3 viggen. I saw some signs and made the purchase. Not the smartest decision, but I went for it Did a number of modifications to it and got it to stage 3 (305hp/335tq). I loved that car, always gave me a smile when I drove it.
After he passed away, his car sort of sat in the driveway. We'd start it and drive it a little bit every few months to keep fluids moving. It was the job I delegated myself since I was the only one that drove stick and enjoyed working on cars. In early January (2016) my dad dropped a few hints like "I'm not sure what we're going to do with his car". It didn't run at the time. I put in a new battery when it stopped starting the previous spring and that one died completely. I told my dad not to sell it. I wanted to buy it from him and I wanted to get it running. It needed a number of things in addition to getting it running, so I know he wouldn't have gotten much (maybe $500-600 for it). I bought it off of him for double that. I got it running (alternator), replaced what it needed and got it inspected. I then had 3 cars on my policy and even though I drive 24k miles a year, It wasn't worth it.
I decided to sell both the saabs in March - both of them were sold on the same weekend for my asking price. So, it kinda worked out. I decided to keep the audi as my daily. Sure, I miss the viggen (more so than the black one), but the Audi has sentimental value, and I wanted to do what I could to keep it going. I felt like it would be what he wanted. It wouldn't be fair for him to buy that car two years earlier for much more, then have it worth very little after only 12,000 miles of driving. I knew what he had wanted to mod to it, so I took his taste and added some of my own. It has come a long way since then and I have made a number of "car" friends, also, learned a lot from the FB groups and forums, which I have become more active on. Thanks to all those here on Audizine that have helped me along the way! Also, It was also a good bonding experience for my father and I, because I know the car has meaning to him as well.
