    Injectors: 386 vs 440 vs 550

So, I'm looking at ultimately getting a Stage 1+ tune installed and I'm building it up little by little to that end. As you all know, it invariably involves the installation of upgraded injectors.

I haven't yet decided which tune to get (Motoza and APR are the front runners, currently), but suffice it to say, both have their preferred injectors. Motoza recommends the Bosch 550's (black), while APR has their own package. They don't specifically specify which ones they use, but the color (light blue) leads me in the direction of the 225 TT (386) injectors. Not to mention, I've seen lots of guys who say they run the APR tune, with the TT injectors.

A guy I know around where I live has mentioned that he was going to the 440's (green giants) because they are the most like the OEM spray pattern, which might be important.

I am curious to find out what everyone is running (or plan to run) and why they went with those particular injectors instead of others.

Bosch 550cc EV14 will be the ideal injector of the bunch. Green Giants are old injectors, and potentially old technology, so not worth their cost. TT 386cc injectors can be expensive, and obviously flow a lot less.
Bosch 550cc EV14 are inexpensive and perform very well. They'll also offer upgrade potential if you decided to install a K04 or FrankenTurbo.

    And definitely go with Motoza.

If the tune uses TT225 (blue) injectors or green giants, then they were probably written 10 years ago. There's no reason to not use EV14 550's, save on hardware costs and have a tune that's somewhat new. FYI, the EV14 injector spray pattern is a wide dual cone that's perfect for the 5v head design.

All the stock turbo tunes perform the same, so go with whichever gives you the warm and fuzzys. The ability to upgrade past the 'cookie cutter' mold of APR is a benefit. Whichever tune you go with, use the specified injectors.

There is no benefit to go with a larger injector than the tune specifies, its detrimental to performance.

The 550s are the current flavor of the month due to the increased headroom for future upgrades, their cost, and proper spray pattern.

If you decided to go with 386s or 440s dont be scared to get them used, just be sure to have them professional cleaned and flow tested prior to install (~$5/injector).

The record for the quickest stock turbo B6 is with APR's 10 year old tune. They put a lot of R&D into the tune and its quite refined. Not to say the newer tunes are not up to par, but time will tell if you can get a solid and reliable 10 years/100k miles out of it.

Good stuff. An additional question...I was going to ask if the original pump works be sufficient, but I think it will be... I've heard tell that one should not install the bigger injectors (regardless of size) without a tune. Any truth to that?

The pump is fine until you are pushing big turbo (BAT territory). Larger injectors without a tune is a bad idea, the car will run like crap.

Stock pump is fine, and I believe my APR Stage 3+ (GT2860R) B6 still has a stock pump.

Don't change injectors to anything other than what is called for by a tune.

That makes it unanimous. No installing until ready to tube

I may still pick some up anyway, if I happen upon a deal that I can't pass up... And decide which tune to get.

    Thanks all for the input!

Nothing wrong with the tt225/386cc injectors. They're just generally a bit pricier. But real you just need to get the injectors specified by the tuner you choose.

Crazy how much a tune and injectors wakes up these cars... And causes the cascading failures of deferred maintenance.

I ran the APR Stage 1+ w/ TT225 injectors for around 9 years. Recently put the car on the dyno just to see the numbers it was putting down. It was running very lean at higher RPM's at WOT. We did another pull and logged a bunch of knocks as well with VCDS. I called APR and they said it was something with my car or the the fuel I was running. Emailed Motoza the following week and they have another customer for life. Their Stage 1+ plus tune with the 550's is night and day difference vs. the APR "tune". Feels like I installed a K04. It feels like the car shouldn't be running this strong on a K03. No more off the shelf tunes for this guy.
