    RS7 Tune resale impact?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I've been hemming and hawing on getting the APR tune done to my C7.5 RS7. The closest shop is roughly an hour away though so it's unlikely that I'll be flashing back and forth between stock every time I bring it in for service so I fully expect it to get flagged. I'm not worried about blowing the warranty or eating the cost of the tune but I am worried if it will do significant damage to the resale value (like $10-30k+).

For those that have resold tuned S/RS vehicles that had been flagged, were you able to get near book or did you have to take a substantial hit?

I'd be looking at Unitronic for flash from home. You can flash back to true stock before service. PM John@Unitronic and he will be able to let you know what they have and risks, etc

EPL says they have a flash for the RS7 coming soon too. It would also be flash from home

This seems like a reach. Flagging it doesn't mean the warranty is void. It means the new owner might have a dispute if he makes a serious repair claim during the warranty period (and Audi would still have to establish causation). Would you go out of your way to explain that to absolutely any and every potential buyer? You don't have to trade the car in at an Audi dealer, and the Audi dealer probably wouldn't be paying top dollar anyway. A $10K to $30K hit? I would think your solution would just be to sell elsewhere. There's no scarlet letter on the car. As a non-dealer you are selling the car as is with no personal warranties or representations, including none about the manufacturer's warranty.

I don't expect to sell it within the warranty period anyway so I wouldn't have to explain that bit to anybody. We usually just sell our vehicles to Carmax to avoid the hassles of dealing with people and we don't mind taking the low end of book for the convenience but I don't know if they buy (or care) about tunes. I know on the buying side I tend to steer away from tuned cars because it's a lot more likely that it has been driven hard by the previous owner so I was hoping to get an idea from people who have actually gone through a sale to see what their experience was (particularly on the higher-end as I expect something like my son's tuned GTI would be a completely different story from the resale on a RS7).

I'll probably talk myself into it regardless but a $3k sink for the tune itself is much easier to digest if it doesn't also come with a downstream $10k+ hit on the eventual resale.

Non- audi dealers dont care about the tune unless you go overboard to explain it to them.

I just can't imagine you will find a real example of someone going out of his way to disclose a potential warranty issue. It's certainly not an obligation. But the floor is open for someone to chime in.

I think the age and apparent maturity of the seller does factor into the resale value, and you would probably have that going for you with or without a tune. In some ways this is inherent in the RS7; few immature kids own them, and it seems doubtful you would ever be asked about a tune. Even if one potential buyer gives you a hassle, you just move to the next. You would never be forced to sell at a huge discount without perceptible damage to the car or a bad VIN. Lots of dealerships other than Carmax are buying cars with no obligation for you to buy from them.

Everyone is going to have different viewpoints. When I was younger I made enough money and honestly didn't care ... I tuned everything. And I loved the difference in power.

Now I'm a little more careful regarding buying used cars. Personally .... based on my own experiences with tunes ... I would never buy a used car that has or had a tune.

Also ... right or wrong .... most buyers would think that a car that's been tuned is a kid that is doing burn-outs, launch starts, racing , etc. etc. Think about it. You're tuning the car for MORE power so you can drive faster which puts more stress on everything else.

Do what you feel is right. YOLO. Trade the car in. That's what I typically do.

Yes we will have our RS7 flash at home very soon. And we are looking for another local RS7 that wants a deal on tuning that can come in to us. Shoot me a PM or email.

I recently sold a stg 2 A6 3.0t private party, and I can say there is zero point in trying to tell or explain a potential buyer that is ignorant about basic modifications. They just have no idea and it confuses them. you will have best luck selling to another enthusiast, which is what I did
