s5 wheels on a b7 avant, hub centric rings issue.

    Hi all,
I just acquired some s5 wheels for my b7 and bought some 57.1 to 66.6 hubcentric rings to account for the hub size difference. The issue I have is that the rings do not fit all the way in the wheel. They seem to go in a quarter of the way, and thus do not sit flush, and it cannot be mounted. I briefly tried to force them in with a rubber mallet, but I figured I'd ask first. I've tried 2 sets of rings already as well. Has anyone else experienced this? Do they make thinner\shorter hubcentric rings?

    obligatory pic

    thanks

Take some sand paper to the wheel hub and to the outside of the hub ring. Are they plastic or metal?

The metal ones are junk. I had 1 on for less than 24hrs with antiseize and you guessed it, it seized to the hub and I got a flat. Took 1 hr on the side of the road to get the metal one off. Never again only the plastic/poly ones and they are so much cheaper.

Americas tire usually carries plastic hubcentric rings in stock at all times. i would go there and order them, you are looking at 8-12 bucks. Like others said sand them down a tad and make sure the center bore of the wheels are clean of any debris.

Pics of the rings you have?
I have those same wheels and use plastic hubcenteric rings without issue. Perfect fit.

These are the ones I bought. Great quality, perfect fit.

I personally prefer metal rings over the plastic ones. Never had an issue with them rusting or seizing to the wheel. I find with plastic rings they warp and can crack in cold weather.

I was worried about that as well however my plastic rings are now two years old and still going strong. More accurately, they're some sort of glass reinforced polycarbonate and quite hard material, almost like graphite, so I'd say that there's little to no chance of them warping.

The plastic are fine as they don't need to do anything just take up the space. For $6-10 shipped a set of ebay or amazon I always have a spare set in the car. 60k miles on my current set and they are fine.
