    Fuel range on a b8

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So this might be a silly question but how come the cars computer display different max range each time I fill up the tank.

I usually fill up when the tank is at the last quarter needle or when it says 70-80 miles remaining. After I fill up, I've seen the max range say 370, 360, 345, and recently 315 miles. Why the inconsistency?

    Thanks

Probably a number of things.. MPG calculated from how you've been driving, sensors not reading the amount of fuel in the tank correctly, etc. Should autocorrect its self after a little while.

Pretty sure it calculates miles to empty based on your last 20 or so miles of travel.

Definitely is calculated based off your previous fuel consumption.

If you drive it like you stole it or suffered from heavy traffic where fuel consumption tends to suck you predicted range will be lower. I've seen mine as low as 520-540kms. However if you fill up right after a highway trip the number will be significantly higher, which I've seen 660kms.

Ya I get almost half of what the actual reading is... I tested this the other day. Very depressing, every time you see it go down by 5 after .5 of a mile 😂

Yes! This annoys me to no end. When you know you are getting low on fuel, so you start driving conservative and the gage still drops 10 every mile.

Overall I have been disappointed by the fuel consumption in this car.... Yes, some of it is self inflicted (i mean why buy this car if you aren't going to drive it) , but I have tested driving conservative for entire tanks consecutively and it doesn't really make that big of a difference. So... Pedal down I guess.

I can get 340 plus out a tank driving mostly highway and some spirited runs. Since I've started mixing In 4gal of E85 mileage hangs around 20-22mph calculated. Computer will say 24.x

Yup, I have tried hypermiling to the best of my ability just to see how accurate the reading could be and was only get to maybe 75% of what the reading was at full tank. Oh well..

It used to max out at 415 on the readout. Now the highest I get is 385 on the readout. Real mileage? Something like 225 because racecar.

The DIC on range in this car seems quite optimistic........ I get a constant 280-320 miles per tank depending on mix of city/highway. Even on a straight road trip it never gets the projected range from a full tank. My other vehicles from different manufacturers have yielded similar results. My 2015 Yukon Denali is about .5-1mpg optimistic on the DIC and the range is also composed of the same unicorn shit the S4 suffers from.

The fuel economy on this car isn't great, but, we all know that's not what we bought it for. I am impressed however that I still get the same gas milage that I used to in my stage 2 A4 in the city. Lol. Not bad for two extra cylinders. Highway, it definitely doesn't improve much at all.

How in the name of Zeus do you get 320 per tank? I can only get like 285 if I baby it the whole tank, which is no fun. In my B8 A4, I could get 425-450, even with spirited driving. When I would fill up, I got the computer to read 500.

agreed, its pretty inaccurate. but not by a whole lot. On fillup it told me 660km to empty. I got about 550 before the fuel light came on. I am averaging 450 a fill up, but I usually only drive to a 1/4 tank

I'm assuming this is mostly highway? lol. When I has to take Deerfoot/Stoney Trail in Calgary I could crack 500kms easily.

If I have to do any inner city driving my stats just plummet to mid or low 400's.

    Fuel range on a b8

On my B8.5, I consistently see 315 miles as max range on DIS (mostly city). Actual consumption before fuel light is at 34 miles left. This leaves me consistently fueling up 13.x gallons / 205-210miles, and fuelly app avg at 15-16mpg. Improved from 14 or so during motoman hard break in .

I stopped caring about mileage or fuel costs #becauseracecar #smilespergallon

Just tried again to hypermile. Could only get 285. I don't think I could get any more even if I drafted a truck, downhill, both ways. Don't know how others are doing it - and I have 6mt.

285 when the light comes on, or when the tank is basically empty? If it's the former, that's really not that bad for this car. That's about 21 mpg. That's what I average.

What RPM do you normally shift at? If you're trying to be ultra conservative, shift around 2,500.

I get about 200-210 when light goes on and fill up 13gallons or so ~ 15mpg. All city though and I love stretching 3rd and 4th gear because racecar and supercharger whine FTW!

I average about 285-320 miles on a tank and thats down to the fuel light coming on. When i fill up to full tank with 93oct my range says anywhere from 380-400..mostly highway driving with occasional sprints of course. And my car is apr stage 2 6MT with roof racks on most of the time. Im also running 235/35r19 tires
