was thinking the same ......I remember selling one mirror for 300 a few yrs back. The solid alum are much nicer than what the B7 come with.

Just take a stanley knife and do a little cut on the inside youll see if they are plastic or alu

Iirc, the split from all aluminum to chrome coated plastic ones happened in 2005. Remember, a lot of people were and are selling these and putting plastic ones as a replacement. So unless you're the original owner, you'd never know. These aluminum ones used to fetch over $500 just for caps easily not including assemblys, these days you could score them as low as 200 including assemblys if you look around. Chrome coated plastic ones could easily be had for a $100 and under. Sell for profit, put cheap plastic ones, then sell the car and new owner has no idea....

If you look from inside the car, you can tell. The real aluminum ones have brush marks even on the inside of the caps where the mirror sits but doesn't cover up. They are not nearly as fine on the inside of the cap as they are on the outside. The later ones are just silver inside.
