As the title states, drove to work, no CEL, went to an appointment, got the CEL for P0343. Left the apt, still on. Parked at my office, the got in the car to drive home, no CEL. Went to dinner, no CEL, home from dinner, No CEL.

As the car sits there is no CEL popped. Is this normal and indicative of a bad cam position sensor?

Yes, I had the exact same experience with my car! I wrote a post about it, if you search p0342 you'll see it.

It came and went for a few weeks until finally the car wouldn't start, leaving me stranded for a while. You'll need to figure out which sensor is bad. Not sure which motor you have but the 3.0 has 4, two sensors per bank.

Also, only use an OEM replacement! I tried using a hella sensor and the car still ran rough, which caused me to believe something else was wrong, so I threw additional parts at it (costing more $$). They are about $60 shipped from ECS, save yourself the headache and don't cheap out. Good luck!

I have a 1.8t and I believe it just has 1 sensor that looks very easy to get to.

    Thank for your reply.

replace your crank sensor... mine did this...i ignored it...a month later car left me stranded 1 hour from home. luckily car fired back up after waiting 45 minutes...but the drive home was tough as the engine would drop and then come back on while steady throttle over and over.

10-20 dollar part...very easy to replace yourself. safe assurance.
