Fuse #28 Fuel Pump - keeps popping

I hate to start a new thread but my google-foo has failed me.

As posted in the "What have you done today" thread - Was getting a CEL with a P0175 code. Figured given the high mileage it was the MAF. Morning that I went to move the car into garage to install the new MAF it wouldn't start. Now I had had some intermittent starting problems but it always started on the second try. At one point it seemed to depend if the car was level. For some reason I deduced it was probably the fuel filter (see mileage comment above). So on the morning in question with a complete no go but endless cranking I thought it was that and prayed it wasn't the crank position sensor.

Coles notes was after a new MAF and fuel filter it turned out the 20A fuse for the fuel pump had blown.

    Fuse #28

And now my issues is the fuse keeps popping when I start the car. I started and drove to work okay this morning. Normal traffic steady speed.

The way home was the usual hour slog in stop and go traffic with my spine thanking me for the manual transmission. Right by my house I stopped and filled up the car with gas (gauge read a quarter tank left). After filling. Bang. Lots of cranking, no starting. Frustrated I pushed the car away from the pumps and got on the old AMA app to request a tow (refer to spine comment above to guess my thoughts). Then I remembered the fuse. Sure enough it had popped again.

Placed a new fuse in and away I went.

Curious to see what tomorrow will bring. Hoping the fuse doesn't go on the interstate.

    Any ideas????

That really sucks bro. I know how it feels to have issues. The only thing I can think up is evap purge canister valve . I'm not surw tbh but I had the same issue when after fueling my car would take some cranking before starting. Im not sure if the fuse and the valve have any relation but I thought I'd put my 2 cents in. Best of luck regardless

Can you hear the typical fuel pump whine when you turn the key to the aux position (not start yet) for a few seconds? Doesn't run continously or anything? Or.. any pump draws it's most current when it starts. I'm thinking a short or something is occurring in the fuel pump when it draws max current on initially starting (not enough current while the pump is already running to cause a spark to jump to the short) which is why it never blows on starting. Or last lol maybe something is binding up your pump causing it to draw too much current. 20A is a lot though...sorry for all guessing but I think those things are most likely. I would personally start at replacing the pump. Hope you get it figured out.

And it was the pump. Tested it and it failed multiple times. Case closed. Mods can delete thread.
