    Tire question 255+ sizes

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Is anyone running 255/35/19 and bigger on the S3?

What I am seeing throughout the forum is 245 seem to be the widest being run by most people here.

reason I am asking is I have some 255/35 Federal RS-RR tires coming in and was just informed that they run TWO sizes bigger then what they say.

    So essentially my 255 is a 275

Also have a photo from the guys at the shop I ordered from of a 255/40 RS-RR next to a 275/40 Nitto NT05.. both are about the same size which has me worried here.

Side note I also have a set of 265/35 R888 toyos coming in as well to try and fit

    Said picture

My PSS's are 255/35/19. Lowered on ED springs. No rubbing. The PSS's run a bit wide, too.

Do you have any close up shots of fitment with your Neuspeeds and the PSS's?

Some quick pics. I've rubbed once when I hit a huge bump that I didn't see (wasn't familiar with the road) but I think I would've rubbed on stock suspension. That one was painful.

So your setup is 19x9 et40 with 255/35/19 PSS's? Just confirming bc I'm ordering forge stars so looking to do a similar setup.

The answer to your tire fitment question lies in the offset of the wheels. Are they going on OEM 19's?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the R888's(Or anything that wide) certainly won't work without touching your fender on either wheel you specified. Especially the 9.5 ET35, def no room for that. I was rubbing at 19x9.5 et37 with 245/35 PSS.. had to do some light fender mod to clear and even now... So far as I know in the wheel thread, I'm running the lowest offset on a 9.5 with a 245 tire.

Your best bet is going to be the 19x9 ET40 with the Federals unless you are looking to do fender mods. The link below shows you the exact measurement differences of my setup and that option. Theoretically If I'm at the limit, then you can determine if these will fit for you from there. It's SUPER important to take into account that your sidewall will not be stretched at all with a 255, the shoulder will be square, and this effects the fit quite a bit. I purposely picked the PSS in 245/35/19 instead of a 255/30 to get a more angled sidewall to contour to the inside of the fender. Glad I did this.

    Here's the link.

It's seriously worth it to investigate the S3 wheel thread too!

You can run 9" wheel and et48 minimum offset and still clear if you remove the shock dust cap or run coilivers and plenty of clearance. you can go 9" and max et42 offset w/ 255's and not rub as well.

    Kookie,
what suspension are you running on yours with that set up?

I planned on rolling my fenders but do not want to pull them if I don't have too. I knew ordering both those tires I was in for a whole lot of headache to get them to fit on the wheels I have.. I did order the IE camber plates to help a bit until I order coil overs hoping that does enough to get them on the car..

The point was to have a very aggressive meaty fitment

Currently on ED springs, so not super low. I'm also -2 in the rear to clear..

Problem is you can only roll the fronts, and not much. The rear is really where you run into fitment issues with those tires and wheel offsets. The S3 rear fender comes ''rolled'' basically, like the B7's.. all you can do is pull them.

If the point is a meaty setup, then a 9.5 ET40 with a 255 will give you that with some light modification - the 19X9 with 255's will only look slightly less meaty if at all to the glance.. I'd say try to fit those on one side and go from there.

well sh*t, I purchased ID camber plates for the front to help some fitment but the rears will most likely not fit at all if yours barely do unless I pull them out which wont look to great.

I am on HR supersports which sit lower then ED springs from what I've been told.

is the -2 maxed out on the stock adjustability for the rear control arms?

This was pretty much what led me to my current setup. I'm on ED springs, as well. I love the square look so I definitely wanted 255's. The Neuspeeds didn't come in 9.5 ET40 so I went with the 9 ET40.

Well everything should be in next week and then going to give it a shot on the Federals and the BBS'. Ill post up pictures of the fitment before the camber plates go on. hopefully I can figure out a way to make it fit

Any updates on your wheel and tire setup? I have 19x8.5 et35 wheels running 225/35 tires. I want meatier tires but don't know if I can go 255. Any suggestions?

I am still waiting for my wheels to show up so no updates here.

8.5 you should be able to fit it...
example the 18's I have on now are 8.5 et30 running a oversized 255 and they fit

Do you think these wouldl still fit if you were out 3.5mm more? Do your current 18" 255's run as wide as a pilot super sport?

19x8.5 et35 you should be good with the pilots 255.
My 255's run as wide if not wider then pilots do and the 30 offset sticks out more then your wheels do. I have a little tire poke but no rubbing unless I'm hooning hard in corners or have a full loaded car on comfort mode.

oh thanks but Im a different person than the one with the 8.5's but you still answered. Friday I will be removing my 18x9 et48 and the new 18x9.5 et39 will be going on with my 255/35-19 PSS's. I will post in the aggressive wheel thread. Also after thinking about it the 255's will not bulge on the wider 9.5 so that should help as well.

I was basically trying to ask if your current setup sat out 3.5mm more would you still fit?

    Thanks!

    My bad lol.
Using my phone so didn't realize it was a different person haha.

Probably not without camber and fender work. Then again I'm going 9.5 et35 with 265's soon so yours should work I imagine but will need some adjusting of suspension and fenders
