Mt. Washington climb!!

Hey there Northeasters, I was just gonna throw it out there that I'm surprised I havent read anything about an Audi Mt Washington day/climb, when I had a Mini cooper it was one of the largest gatherings in the country (so big I think BMW/Mini sets it up themselves!)

So I know its a little late this year, although maybe some people could go? I know I'm gonna be in Bartlett on vacation 9-16 and I'm gonna be going up the mountain at least once, maybe twice if the weather isn't good enough the first time lol.

But maybe we should all try and set up a gathering there for next year? It'd be pretty sweet to get the entire mountain topside and bottom side filled with Audi's like they do with Mini's (its called Minis on Top if anyone wanted to look it up) but even if we could get a good group of like 25 people I think that'd be pretty cool. Maybe get someone with an amazing camera or whom is a photographer on the mountain taking pics of the cars going by, getting the assembly etc etc. I know I've got a pro camera setup but I don't know how to use it much! lol

Just a thought. Anyone interested?

Nice! I know that for the mini one people come from all the way to the rockies for the event so maybe we can get it sorted out over the winter and get it posted in the other close by regions as well and maybe see if theres gonna be a huge interest in it, I know that they normally get snow by the first week or two of October and that's when they close the road so I don't think it'd be possible to get it done this year.

Although like I said, I know its short notice but I'm going up there this 9th-16th in sept, I normally shoot for a weekday just cause its slower but if anyone else wanted to go up I wouldn't mind doing it on one of the Fridays or that first weekend, just throwing it out there!

Otherwise I say we try and get something set up for sometime in the summer next year?

Sweet deal, I'm gonna try and figure out how they organize mini's on top as they close the mountain for minis only... I wonder if it costs anything, if I cant find anything online maybe ill ask them in person when I'm there

Edit: So apparently the function even has its own website... Www.Minisontop.org its that big and successful lol. From what I've read on the website they actually get the local dealers to support it and help fund some of the function, its a three day event that is Friday, saturday, and Sunday. It is actually pretty big/intense lol. I'm not sure hoe much interest there will be in this but maybe if we open it up to the whole VAG community we might be able to get something similar going on which I think would be a pretty cool deal. Otherwise maybe we could look into just setting up a day next year where we can all meet and take a ride to/up the mountain which would probably be the easier route.

What do yall think? Think there might be enough interest in setting up a big event, or just keep it short and sweet? Maybe take a look at their website to get some ideas of how extensive it could be

Minis on top was a cool event. It was set up with a mini enthusiast who was one of my customers when i worked for MINI. Ive done MOP with my old job. Definitely a fun day but theres no way i would take my own car up to the top honestly.

Yeah I was thinking about that. What's the terrain like? Like it is all paved and stuff or what? Not looking to destroy my car climbing a mountain.

So the S5 is in the shop, HPFP went, so if within the next couple weeks ill be stuck with my FWD A4 :( we will see

You can't just throw in a new HPFP? It's not like the A4?

audi has to order it and supposedly there's only one in the us in their system. audi is doing the repair as part of a warranty because I just bought the car

Its paved for 3/4 or maybe alittle more to the top, then its a maintained dirt road, they just don't pave above that because of the shear amount of extreme weather they get above that point, and that is where the snow cat stops.

He doesn't want to take it up because he's afraid of how hard it is of a climb/decent. I've done it in all my cars and if my car cannot climb that mountain than it cant handle my driving and I shouldn't own it anyways.

If you know how to drive extreme grades then your fine. Your just in first gear the whole way up and down, its about a 45 minute drive up but it takes me about twice as long the way down because I stop constantly to let the brakes cool. I stop to enjoy being up there, look at the views (nothing like being on a mountain!) and just to make sure the cars good to go.

If I can find my pictures of last year I will shoe you Adam, its crazy though as last year we went twice as the first time we were in the clouds, the second time we had hundred mile visibility. It was amazing!

Doing what? The meetup or the MT. Washington trip? The MT.Washington trip I am trying to get organized yes, it seems there is no interest for this year but for next year I will do my best to get something together, it may not have a fancy website and all that and I'm not the most organised person so if anyone wants to help I will take it!

But ya I'm trying to get something together, while I'm there I am gonna try and talk to some of the MT wasthington staff and see if I can find out some info on how to organize it

Also if there is interest (I will repost in the other thread) because my family is a timeshare owner at the Grand Summit resort at Attitash, I can rent the conference room and get blocks of rooms at something like a 10% discount. So if it ends up becoming legit like the Mini's on top, I will look into doing it. Or if we get tons of people interested and anyone doesn't wanna drive up and back in the same day (From NH, MA border its like 3.5 hours one way) then maybe I can get a block of rooms organised for people to stay at that hotel.
