Carista app. Is it a scam now?

I heard about the app in the beta stages just didn't wanna buy. I was gonna buy last night off amazon and I seen people saying its a scam now cause you need a subscription service to use it now. Is this true or is the subscription to unlock more things to do? Thanks.

I don't know if it's any different now. I can tell you when I bought mine off of Amazon a few options are enabled for free. I did have to pay a one time fee to open all of the options up. I don't pay anything monthly. Quick way to change simple mods without having to pull out the trusted Ross-Tech. Hope this helps.

Everything you need to know about Carista. The last couple of pages explain the new billing model. You may still be able to get it with the old billing model if you contact the developer directly.

The app works great.. along with their own obd Bluetooth dongle.. the updated program is out of the beta stage now..
They grandfathered the previous uses that had the problem version a few weeks ago.. but yes , they did change the pricing structure , to a subscription setup.. think either weekly or yearly unlimited use... It's a great app and less complicated to do minor Vagcom changes.. unless you know or have the actual vag_com program and the vcds ross obd cable...
It's like 9.99 for a week's use, or 39.99 for unlimited use for the year..
Good for activation of oil temp gauge, gear display, amber light delete, and remote Windows activation.. better to use the regular torque app or dash command for cel diagnosis...

I think some of the confusion was from their original email and I think something was definitely lost in translation. They sent a correction email explaining the grandfathering etc.

The app is/was great for simple customizations, code reading/clearing and the EPB function. That being said I finally ponied up and went full VCDS based on the more advanced retrofit stuff I needed to do.

Their support is actually really good and I've always received an email back directly from one of the developers and that actually says a lot to me about how they stand behind their product.

Lastly, and not making excuses this is just my personal experience, our car is not "new hotness" anymore so they are going to be spending a lot more time on the newer platforms. That happens in all aspects of the tuning industry so don't take it personally if support for the B8 (addition of new mods etc.) starts to dwindle.

No, they just changed their pricing plan, which coming from someone who already has it, I find it is a tad too expensive for what it is, and what it does... I purchased it when it was about 25$ for a year of unlimited usage (customizations + codes) plus the 40$ obd2 dongle.

I personally used it just to customize a few options like Windows auto down with remote and keep the day LEDs on while the flasher is on (Canada) amongst 2 or 3 others. Having already customized what I wanted I won't be renewing the subscription when mine is up.

You can check out their website for more info: http://www.caristaapp.com

Its not a scam but some users are getting a Ross Cable since they can do lot more coding than the basic Carista,I truly think they are going to lose customer by going the subscription route.Carista for my Audi there were only like 5 settings I used, most either didn't work on my car or just simple settings like lighting.Wonder if anyone got the adaptive emergency braking to work????.

from what i know is you pay 6.99 to use all available options for a week. on top of the $20 you pay for the app.
i guess members who bought it last year or participated in the beta doesnt get charged anything.

Carista app. Is it a scam now?

The app is free but to customize you pay. If you get the app you can get unlimited full features with the old pro package ($19.99) vs. the 9.99/week or 39.99/lifetime. Go to debug menu -> purchase old pro package.

There's a lot you can do but nothing compared to the full vcds. Still worth the money, paid $15 for a obd2 adapter and $19.99 for unlimited customizations.

I already own an OBD2 adapter. So I can use that with the Carista app?

If you can connect to it like normal and it's an ELM327 adapter then yeah. I bought the Panlong WiFi adapter since iPhone can't use Bluetooth for it. Cost me $15.99 from Amazon.

But you can't customize until you purchase pro.

I have an elm327 adapter from VEEPEAK. It connects but says my 2010 B8 isn't a supported vehicle

Does that same adapter work with any of the other free apps on the store? The Amazon reviews confirm that the veepeak adapter should work for Carista, and the 2010 B8 is supported.

If you are on Android it should work with almost anything. If you are on iOS it will only work with Carista and OBD Fusion
