I'm going to buy an engine rebuild kit and want to know what the difference between standard, .5mm, and 1mm is. Do I just buy Standard size for all the parts associated with the rebuild?

The .5 and 1 mm sizes refer to oversize diameter. If your block is in good shape, you can go with standard size. If it's worn and needs to be bored, you'll have to go with matching oversize pistons and rings. A good machine shop can advise you.
