    Backyard A4 B7 ENGINE SWAP 2.0T [ATTEMPT 3]

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Final attempt to save my car

I've run out of money/parts and resources. Thought I'd give it a go here before I get it sold for scrap($80AUDyay!)

    Car - 05 A4 2.0T Quattro 145K 6spd Auto ENG CODE-BGB
    Donor Car - 05 A4 2.0T 120K CVT ENG CODE - BGB

Is it possible to be done. I've been told it's mechanically possibly but electrically it might be a nightmare.

Has any done a swap on something similar? how'd it go long term and short

    Any tips/info would be appreciated.

Don't mind making a proper step by step guide and post it here if this goes anywhere

    Cheers!

You'll need to swap the crankshaft for starters. Beyond that everything should bolt up. There should be no electrical work required for that swap.

I just finished a complete 2.0 swap in a driveway. Pretty simple if you got tools. Go find a motor, in bolt your install the new. Plain and simple. I'm no pro and I'd say it's a 6/7 outta 10 for difficulty level. As stated tools are key.

Once you've removed it install is reverse. Use caution on the electrical sensor plugs. Especially the knock sensor at the back of motor. If you cut ty raps from factory it will give you more length when u go to remove.

thank you seems a bit more promising

Nicely done, backyard jobs are the way to go. Was yours CVT to CVT?

So no problems between the engine being originally from a FWD CVT and being put into the QUAT. Guy from the shop I called this morning kept banging on about it being a no go.

Don't know if it changes anything but everything forward of the engine is being swapped too

I take that back. You should be fine w/o swapping cranks. The manual/cvt crank can be used with a tip transmission but not the other way around.

Im probably going to get a manual transmission at some stage. What 6sp box will work with a BGB CVT engine? Part numbers. There is a brand new 6 spd available around where I live for around 4K (dhz code). Worth it?

Considering you're fwd you'd have a lot less work to do than a Quattro! Good luck with this

I swapped a CVT engine into a 6spd car. No prob. You should be able to swap a cvt engine into a auto.

Make sure you swap all of your electrical sensors from the old engine onto the new one. Dont ask why...........................
