    Opinions needed on catback options

I have a 2016 S3 and I'm looking to add a catback to it. This is the only mod I plan to do until warranty is up. I use my car for work so I need it to be something valved that I can make it quiet while at work and loud when I want it to be. I see that Milltek, AWE and Bull X make valved systems. If I'm looking for a deep/aggressive tone, what would you recommend? I ran the AWE touring on my MK6 GLI and the quality was awesome, but it was a bit ricey and loud on the highway. That has me a little worried as to what I should do on my S3. Thanks!

It seems as though the Bull X is the loudest. It would probably be between the Milltek and the AWE. I've been holding out for AWE to do 20% off but who knows when that will happen. Any further input would be much appreciated!

Love my Milltek non-resonated cat back. Throaty sound all through the range and no highway drone....also made my downpipes piggies while I was at it!

I have Miltek resonated on APR Stage 3+. You can only hear it during revs are heavy on the throttle zero drone / sound hwy cruise control.

Any videos of your Milltek? How is it compared to stock while driving in say comfort mode? I'm an auditor so I frequently carpool with coworkers and park in a ramp. I don't want anything that will affect the comfort of my car in those situations lol. I'm between the AWE or the Milltek.

I run the AWE non Valved cat back. I don't find it loud at all and I daily drive it. Deep sound throughout the rpm band. If you want super quiet then get the AWE valved. AWE is 100% ricer sound free.

I certainly am leaning towards the AWE. It's hard to decide without being able to hear them in person. If AWE did 20% off again that would make up my mind for me ha

Should I be at all concerned about warranty with a cat-back? I never worried about it on my VWs but they weren't $50k cars.

I don't think you should have any concerns with a catback. ..
It's the downpipe that may get you on trouble.....

I need to catch a ride with you since I'm considering the AWE turbo back. Your DP is resonated, correct?

Go with the AWE. I just got mine installed last week. I think it sounds great and have a 30 mile commute on the highway. Very happy with my purchase. Good Luck

Are you running cat-back or turbo-back?

I spoke with a few different places that sell both AWE and Milltek and they say Milltek if I'm looking for something more conservative. I'm between the AWE Switchpath and the Milltek non-res valved. A friend of mine has a mk6 golf r and he has the resonated Milltek so I'm going to hear that and see. I'm not sure if that will sound the same as my S3.

Get cheapest cat back. Billy boat system or AWE track edition, then see how you like the sound.. If you want more louder, just cut off muffler or Resonator.

I had Neuspeed cat back and it had DEEP MUTED TONE, and I didnt like it so i cut off the duo muffler. Now, its slightly louder and Not deep muted tone and reduced weight.

I've been watching videos like crazy tonight and I think the AWE seems more tamed compared to the Milltek non-res. I think it seems deeper too. I might be ordering an exhaust in the near future lol.

Sounds badass! With the valves closed does it quiet down pretty good?

Without the DP it was fairly quiet with the values open or closed, it made a little difference though, with the DP, it's much quieter with the values closed. No drone on the freeway or when cruising with or without DP.

Here is a shitty GoProtato video I made of my catback, something was up with the clips getting cut short. This is the AWE Track catback mated to the OEM downpipe.

Video of AWE turbo back with resonated DP. It's a Golf R, but should sound roughly the same.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AqmGWbyzZWc

I think I'll probably pick one of these up with the Switchpath remote, and keep the valves closed most of the time (especially at cold start for the sake of the neighbors in the morning).

    I'm in the same boat.

I was looking many videos from differents systems. I was close to get Bull X but all videos I see are under wot and don't show cruising mode in highways or something like that. :(

I'm waiting to see what Unitronic comes up with for the S3. They just released one for the A3 line. It's kinda hard to tell from their marketing video (there's a bunch of extra artificial sounds and rhythm) but it sounds pretty damn good (and it's a TBE in the vid). I'll say it's more of a conservative option. Which is what I'm after. Comes with a decent sized resonator (much like the Milltek). It does not sound raspy at all.... pretty smooth and deep. And the farts sound more like crisp pops. And best of all, I'm sure it's going to be priced really well....like below $1,500. But don't quote me on that. I'm just going by their other products.

Just went for a ride in my buddies mk6 R with a USP downpipe and milltek res catback. In my opinion it sounds amazing. I want something like that with just a catback.

I think I made up my mind. I sat down last night with my MacBook and v-moda headphones and listened to all of the exhausts again. In my opinion the Uni on the A3 sounds the best. I'm going to wait to see what the S3 version is like. My next choice is the Milltek non-res valved. The videos sound like it gets a bit raspy, but based on how my buddies R sounds I think I'd be happy with it if I can get 20% off during their sale. My next choice would be the AWE but I hear a rattling/buzzing tone when it's revved up. That's the notice I heard on my GLI that drove my insane so I'm not going down that path again. I have to admit that the Bull-X sounds good, but it's a little too loud for me. Thanks for the help!

Check out the recently posted thread on the Dinan exhaust too. Probably 3+ months out at least, but given their history, the exhaust is likely to be tame at cruising and have a mid-level volume at WOT.
