Battery disconnect recovery

Hi, i'm looking for self study program about recovery from battery disconnect.
I mean step by step recalibrations and basic settings on ECU and another units.

I disconnected my battery when I replaced my steering wheel and airbag. I didn't have to re-calibrate anything. Still, I'd like to know if there's a particular procedure I should follow. The service manual warns about 'component damage' when disconnecting the battery, but that runs contrary to everything I know about automotive electronics. If the car can be damaged by disconnecting the battery or running it flat, that seems like really, really poor design.


When you replace the battery, you're supposed to enter a code into the battery management unit so it knows the charging characteristics of the new battery, but that's pretty well documented.

I disconnected the battery when I did the 3G+ MMI conversion and the car started back up with no issues. All you need is a socket to loosen the battery terminal clips.
