I remember seeing the ad for the new (at the time) MK5 Jetta and Golf. All I could think was "my god... finally a car we won't have to lower!!" These thoughts prevailed in my mind until I saw them first on the road and was bemused by the Corolla inspired stance and the prevailing thoughts changed in my mind. I was then plagued by this notion that we are duped by marketing professionals who really know how the car should look. Flush wheel - fender stance doesn't occur to your average car buyer. I don't suppose it should. But advertisements for our cars represent a sport driven nature that you don't come to associate with ride height until you yourself make a decision to change it, and notice for yourself just how drastic the effect really is. If you pointed it out to my own mother on a showroom floor she would be able to tell, but not care. And everyone else doesn't seem to notice or care because they think their car looks just as good as it does in the pamphlet.

Why do they do it

Probably so we can have more fun
