Is anyone running the ProjectB5 single turbo setup?

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone is running the single turbo setup from project b5. How's the fit and finish? Did you source your own turbo since it's just the piping and exhaust?

My buddy Matt here at school just finished his PB5 single turbo build with what I believe is a precision pte. I talked to him at our car meet the other day and he was pretty happy with the quality. Maybe he can chime in.

I believe they designed the kit around a precision turbo but forgot which exact one.

Well they used a precision turbo and fabbed their own pipes right? Thats what I meant by designed it around a precision.

If they source the pipes and etc and just bundle it together than I guess they didnt design it?

As Mike stated, I have a PB5 kit with a PTE 5858. I am really happy with the quality of everything, Nick is a good guy to work with. These are the best pictures I have currently...

    lol.. you're right it does!

Pretty hard for PB5 to claim they didn't just rip off the design at that point considering if they had any clue they would have at least gotten rid of the stupid WG placement and put it somewhere it would work correctly with a big turbine.

And people continue to buy this junk... Amazing.

On the PB5 kit, what holds up the turbo? Seems like those flex joints would be toast pretty quickly.

I road in matts car yesterday. Say what you want about the WG placement but his car is faster than 99% of the b5s on audizine.

034 sells a brace you can get with the kit.

I don't know who Matt is... but 100% that WG placement will not work on a free flowing turbine housing/wheel.

Also that's a bold claim with ZERO data to back it up... All just a bunch of lip flapping going on.

I have the kit on my car now, as far as fitment it wasn't perfect but wasn't terrible either, I did have to chop and re-weld the dump tube to clear perfectly but other than that it wasn't bad. It is designed for precision v-band turbos so you could source your own or Nick @pb5 could hook you up with everything you need if you want to buy it all in one spot, I'll post some pics from my build so you can see what it looks like installed, hope to finish it and get it tuned within the next couple weeks and put it on a dyno so I can give better feedback when running

There's quite a few guys out there with the kit now and I've never heard anything negative about the flex joints. A lot of people who bought the 034 kit suffered from the bellow breaking.

I think he's questioning the design rather than the product itself. Sustaining some of the weight of the turbo is going to blow any flex joints regardless of where they came from.

Does the pb5 kit offer a brace for the turbo?

You can just buy a brace and mount it to the top of your IM in one of the y pipe mounts. If you're building a single turbo then making a brace isn't that much of a project.

No its not, but that's not the point I was trying to make. The design is bad as its sold from 034. Without a brace, any flex joints are going to eventually see issues. Doesn't matter who it comes from. Idk if pb5 sells a brace with their kit, hence my asking

What kind of data do you want?

I am running a MBC at 30 psi with no wastegate problems what so ever.

Just fab up your own... Not that hard. If you're going single turbo, this should be the last of your worries.

60-130mph would be a good data point. FATS if your using the 01E trans. Quarter mile (ET and trap).

Those are just a few things we can judge to see how well the car performs.

Lol, I'm not looking to buy. Simply stating the obvious and asking a simple question to those who've purchased. Answer is no

Should be of some concern, both sides are on flexpipes......holding up the turbo.

I would fab one up, and I'd fab the rest too. With the plethora of fabrication tools and machinery at my fingertips it'd be stupid not to. If it's just that easy, then why isn't one included in the kit? It's $900 and doesn't include what apparently is such a miniscule part.

I'm not here to argue, was simply backing kamil's curiosity and asking a question. Your build looks good regardless what kit. I would brace it up though

    The recipe is

    Buy from 034

Send 034 kit to Chicoms for copy

    Re label it PB5 kit

Sell 034 kit at Audizine in the Classifieds

Sell PB5 "in house designed and engineered" kit to the masses.

This is the one concern I would have too. It isn't a big deal not to back purge plumbing post turbo but pre turbo sees a lot of heat. Contaminated welds won't hold up overtime. I didn't back purge my exhaust and it its holding up two years no problem.

I'm not the one claiming OTHER peoples cars are fast.

The more I read posts like your and mikeb17's I understand why junk like this sells.
