Can the OEM drivetrain parts handle regular hard driving?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So it's time for me to replace a few components of my 6MT S5 (engine mounts, flywheel, clutch). I like to drive "hard". I.e. fast accelerations around corners, quick down/upshifts, etc. I don't drive it much (weekend car), I'll maybe take it to red line once or twice a week.

Wondering if people have any comments on the following:
    1. Replacing the fluid filled mounts with a solid one from 034 Motorsports
    2. Replacing the dual mass flywheel with a single mass lightweight from (ecstuning)
    3. Heavy duty clutch kit (southbendclutch)

The OE parts obviously provide more comfort and smooth shifting, but can they handle rough driving (longevity wide)? Do the performance parts give better longevity, or are they purely designed for performance? I don't mind a bit of extra vibration, but really don't want rough shifts between gears when cruising.

    Thanks

OEM parts should handle spirited driving just fine on a OEM S5.

The issue is when you start adding more torque/hp from things like tune and pulley upgrade. The OEM clutch can't really handle many launches and it will start slipping after some time. At that point you should consider a stage 3-4 clutch and LWFW.

You can still achieve OEM like drivablity/comfort with aftermarket upgrades.

    Hope this answer your question....

I think what you listed are the only real weak points of this car. I had to replace my motor mounts with 034. Like them a lot and don't notice any extra vibration, and they should last longer. I wouldn't just change them to change them. Wait until the oem motor mounts go out.

As far as clutches, if you go with southbend or jhm they have their own single mass flywheels that go with their clutches. Not sure how the oem clutch and flywheel hold up to a stock car, but they were no where near up to the task with a modified car. In my opinion the main problem is the oem pressure plate. The southbend stage 3 has an upgraded pressure plate and the JHM R3 series clutches have upgraded pressure plates.

Since you do care about the "longevity", then why would you want dat clutch kit and LWFW from different brands?

I would go with solid proven route if I were you, especially u are outside of U.S (shipping cost)

I killed a power steering pump and the front suspension bushings by driving aggressively in N. Ga. and E Tenn. Brakes take a beating too but so far no issues (stock calipers with Tyrol stiffening kit, EBC reds and BrakeTech rotors). Everything else seems to be holding up fine (stock clutch, flywheel and engine mounts)
