Oil consumption issue now outside of warranty/recall

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I bought a 2010 A4 last month from a dealership and am now adding a quart of mile roughly every 300 miles. It has 68,000 miles and is under 8 years old, which is covered by their recall/extended warranty for this problem, but apparently Audi stopped testing vehicles for excessive oil consumption right around the time I bought it.

Has anyone else had this problem? Any work-arounds to get Audi to pay for this? I have no idea what the problem is (the searches I've done turn up multiple causes and prices), or how much it costs to fix. I feel like I bought a lemon.

So your past your grace period with the dealership? Id take it back to him and have him explain why the oil consumption wasnt done and show him all the info online. Ask him how he could sell a vehicle in that condition and expect his reputation not to go down. Hit him with thoughts that will affect his future earnings and your displeasure but be nice about it and demand he cover the repair. If that fails, call aoa and plead your case..explaining in full detail how car was sold to you in that condition and oil consumption was hidden from you. If you dont take care of it youre going to be coming out of pocket for over 5k or more if things go sour.

    Audi's dealership or third party?

I thought the 8yr/80k still in effect. Try calling AOA and visit all of your nearby Audi's dealership. The grace period that ended recently, I believe was for cars that have more than 80,000 miles.

call AOA and confirm your VIN is still covered under the 8yr/80k, not all VINs are. I talked to them and confirmed mine right after I heard about the July date. With that said, I find it hard to believe they could stop the testing process if there are still cars that are covered for this issue. Im planning on calling my dealer today to setup an oil consumption test so ill report back and let you know what they say.

audi dealership said they will take me in for testing since my VIN is covered under the 8yr/80k, but they said i will probably pass testing even with my car burning up to 1 qt in 800 miles. I just dont understand how they can say that when the newer motors and people who have had the stage 2 fix done burn next to nothing. Might have to get rid of this car and get something older/6speed if i dont feel like swapping in a b8.5 motor should i not get this fixed.

It will only pass if they force it to pass, I was going through 1qt/500-600 miles and was only covered after the lawsuit was finalized. If you are having them cover it with their goodwill money you are not going to be approved. Make sure you open a case with AOA now to avoid that and be sure that they, AOA, will be covering it.

Havent scheduled the testing yet, trying to talk to my buddies dad (mechanic at dealership) to verify the process and what he thinks of it all. when i talked to the lady in service it was confirmed that the car went through stage 1 and 2 testing and passed in 2015, i guess a few months before i bought it. maybe that's why the previous owner got rid of it. once i have it scheduled ill get the service number from them and put in a case with AOA. I feel like i asked the dealership i bought it from if it had been through any consumption testing and they said it didnt appear to have been.

If it was burning that much there had to be something else wrong, did they say if it was flagged for modifications or anything?

nope its not flagged TD1. the dealer im working with has been great so far, so hopefully things go smooth. the original phone call to the SA secretary didnt sound promising, but after talking on the phone with one of the mechanics and talking to the secretary again later on she sort of hinted that i might get lucky since im a different owner since the last consumption testing. I guess we'll see what happens.
