    Picked up a 2016 S8 Plus

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
This is a first bigger 8 series Audi and i like it I've been eying up this or the Rs7 at a local dealer so we ended up testing both. Now don't get me wrong I love the extra bold statement and sound of the RS7 but it did not drive as smooth as the S8 does. Even in comfort suspension the RS7 was to stiff for my liking. Having a family of 4 the RS7 was just not for us and believe we made the smarter pick between the two. Its strange but there are things i really like on the rs7 but still not sold on the 7 body style. Would be insanely awesome if Audi did a RS8 body parts to an S8 but that's not going to happen ever since this is the last of the S8's so they say. Also the interior / dash and rear cf center console is much nicer imo between the two. Ok moving on I love this thing and already want to do an APR or other tune when the plus's become available. From what I believe the S8 Plus is the same motor/trans as well as programming that is now in the RS7, the only different is the exhaust though I may be incorrect on that statement. Next mod would be to do the oval exhaust since the stock 2 pipes imo make it look horrible in the rear. I've sent an email to mtm in hopes they have parts available to make it look like their Talladega S8 which look sharp! Below are photos of the rear of the Talladega, anyone know where or how to do this to the tips that would fit correct?

Very nice car!! I'm with you, just not sold on that whole "hatch back / wagon-look" The S8 is exactly what I would get and I dream of getting the S8 Performance in that amazing matte silver color! Keep updating this thread with your mods please!

Thanks man. Don't get me wrong if Audi would bring in the RS6 Avant i'd be the first one in line at the dealership I apsoluetnly love "true" wagons much over then Sedans. There's just something offer about the RS7 / 7's maybe looks to long and not wide i'm not sure. But anyway thank you for the props totally appreciate it! Have a feeling no on posts much here since there are a lot of folks on the RS7 thread :-( Hopefully more guys that have these will post and discuss mod's i'm really looking forward in tuning this bad boy.

I'll come out and say the RS7 is ugly out back. Could never get over that or I would have bought one. Your car is awesome. I'll bet you can get it tuned right now - contact APR.

What do you mean last of the S8s?! I was hoping I had found a model for life.

Already contacted APR since they did my last tune on my R8 which felt good for n/a. Unfortunately they don't have one yet and said end of year or next year which imo isn't promising especially since the car has been out for some time now. Last of the S8 is 2017 from what i've heard, new body type is coming.

With a new body type will come a new S8 I would hope - maybe with a brief hiatus for the first few years of the new body.

Good thing the S8 plus is so damn fast already. It's pretty close to a stage 1 APR car from what I've read. I wouldn't hold my breath for APR to introduce the tuning; they move glacially. Maybe by the time the next S8 is introduced...

GIAC seems to have a good tune for the S8. Maybe they will do a plus tune.

Thanks Chris, I've used Revo tuning before too and they are good. Hopefully their will be some tuning soon for this beast. Want to play with the Rs7's :-(

I drove the S8 plus for 40 minute then got back into my 2013 S8 stage 2 APR with intakes. Not even close. APR has created a monster with stage 2. Reports are 3.1 to 3.0 zero to sixty. I installed the tune at 500 miles and never had a problem.

You have not lived until you own a stage 2 4.0 TT.

They are ungodly expensive for everything... I just don't get it how they maintaining their already small market share. No one in US is really buying it.

I thought the Stage 2 APR was only available with the downpipes? And aren't the APR downpipes still in development for the 2013+ S8? The only reason I ask is because I also have a 2013 S8 and I couldn't find the downpipes on APR's website. If I'm missing something, please fill me in!

Nice purchase. I love mine (2013)! I'll try to post some pics when I can. (Just put on a new set of Vossen CV3R).

I looked at the Miltek exhaust, and even that was pricey. Not sure if it's worth it, considering mine already puts out around 640hp (w/ APR Stage 1 tune). Spending thousands of dollars for a few extra horses doesn't seem worth it. But I agree, the tips could use some upgrading.

I was thinking about going to a higher-end exhaust shop and seeing if they could do electric-cutouts. That way, I could open up the exhaust without breaking the bank on a full system. Not sure if there are any drawbacks though, being that it's a twin turbo.

You can fit the downpipes for the other 4.0T platforms onto the S8. El1ite performance here in Houston did this on mine. You'll die before APR gets around to wrapping up an S8-specific kit.

    http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...wnpipe-install

I feel the same way about an expensive exhaust; sure I can afford it, just as I can afford a $3,000 pen or $15,000 refrigerator. Why should I pay that? I'm going to try a pair of magnaflow round mufflers in place of the stockers in back and some flat black exhaust tips. Audi made this car way too quiet.

Awesome. Thanks! I'm going to look into that.

The only downside for me going to Stage 2, is it evidently won't pass smog. At least not in CA, home of the dumbest smog laws in the country.

Although I don't know if it's just the visual part that it won't pass (??)

That I can't help you with. Guys in the more populated C7 S6/S7 section may be able to answer that. There may have even been a thread already.

Downpipes will not pass the visual part of California's inspection, though you are not required to smog new vehicles for the first 6 years.

Hi guys, Sorry i haven't posted back been focusing on modding my trucks but have been enjoying driving the S8 a lot more I drive her.

But I just had a very strange issue. The rear glass exploded/shattered in our garage untouched. She only has 1300miles on her, the only mod we have done was tinting which was done my our normally tinter 2 months ago posted above. We called him to ask if he has ever heard of such a thing and he said no only time would be if the car was in an accident. Regardless we had her towed to the dealer yesterday to show them since the glass was being held up by the tint itself. Fortunately my two kids were not in the back when this happened as well as not having the tint to save them from the glass falling on them. What was interested was the dealer looked over the glass and pointed out a few spots that they "think" many be cracks that could have caused this. My answer was sorry I was going 100mph in reverse in my garage to have a rock hit it. Needless to say i was getting upset to think this was caused by me other then the tint which they were not concerned about. Waiting to hear what they say, personally i believe there was some type of defect in the glass or the body is twisting which i doubt. Will report back.

Regarding mods, still sure want to stage 1 or 2 when it becomes available. I meet a guy at the gym how has a rs7 and a stage 1 kit and he said it was a big difference. Would love for an oval tip on the best of this baby

Your window issue sounds very similar to this thread.

They could just be RS7 tips, or it could be the moshammer rear valence which uses the rs7 tips. The MTM kit i believe is a hofele front bumper, and the moshammer is also hofele front bumper.

Nice, and everyone has an opinion, me personally I'm an Audi fan. I like em all. I chose an RS7 I like the aggressive look of it vs the S8, and the rarity vs an S model. Congrats.
