    21 tire sizes

It looks like there are some additional tires now made for the OEM 21s in the 255/40R21 size.
    http://m.tirerack.com/tires/TireResu...zipCode=null#0

They've added a Continental tire to the line up for summer performance and as well as a Scorpion winter (seasonal) now back in production. Still no Michelin for that size (my preferred tire).

Here's the question for all you wheel/tire guys out there. There seem to be a lot more choices in the 265 department.
That increases width, but keeps rolling diameter and sidewall size the same. Will beefing up to 265 be possible?
    Issues with fitment/seal/rubbing anywhere?
There is 1 Michelin choice at that size:

    http://m.tirerack.com/tires/TireResu...&diameter=21#0

Would this tire work better than the Dunlop OE tire I was going to get?

    Increasing to 265 will work!
Just read it on Audizine "sq5 21" tire options"

FYI the sidewall is taller, so your rolling diameter increases (sidewall number is a percentage of width). Most people have been able to fit the taller 265/40R21 tires without issues, but keep in mind that depending on the tire the profile can vary a bit, so you need to make sure it doesn't hit the steering knuckle (not a lot of clearance there if you take a look).

I'd be all over that 265 Latitude. I ran those on my VFF-103. Perfect tire for these.

Cannot beat Michelin for performance... DWS is BY FAR the best A/S IMO. But the 295's look maybe 1/2 inch wider than my 275 Pirelli A/S's... Getting back to what Riceboy said.

I think I am all over these scorpions. I may bite the bullet and just pay for a cycle of mounting and unmounting this winter as my SQ5 had brand new pirelli pzeros last month. May mount the all seasons decemeber -march.....go back to the pzeros for next summer and then go all seasons full time next december.

There is no problem running 265's at all. The only thing you have to be concerned with, other than your aesthetics, is the 29.3" height restriction. That's the maximum diameter before contacting the spindle arm (knuckle). That's why you have to drop to a 35 series if you go wider than 265 on 21"s. Even with aftermarket wheels and varying offsets, you can't go bigger than 29.3".

Ok so if the 40 is cutting it close to the control arm spindle, and dropping to a 35 help you there, what about these?

How bad does this fuck up my rolling diameter?

Well, I just looked up the size difference calculator.
I guess maybe I'll just stick wth the OE size. I hate screwing up mph and mileage, and it looks like both do pretty badly. So Dunlop's it is I suppose. Unless I choose the new Conti option. Maybe Michelin will offer a tire in this size by next year.

I'd really like a Michelin option. Esp PSS's, but Latitudes would work as well.

    Here are the comparisons:

    OEM 21 (255/40) vs 265/40

    OEM 21 (255/40) vs 265/35

Honestly, looking at it again, the 265/40 option isn't THAT bad.

It's only off an additional (0.1) per every 10 mph. That's only 1 mph off up to 100mph. Not awful.

And it gives you a bit wider base to sit on.

And it looks like the sidewall gives you (0.2) difference in height. Can't imagine that will interfere with the control arms.
Esp with a summer performance tire with thinner tread.

    Idk. I'm still really torn.
Looking at 7 less revolutions per mile on the tire, which will add up to showing lower miles on your car than what are actually on there I think. That's not a bad thing I suppose for resale value.

And less rev/mile would equal longer tire life potentially.

IMO, I would go 265/40 and get the Latitude.

What I said about dropping to a 35 series implied making up the difference in a wider tire, which would require a wider wheel. I apologize for my omission.

    Oh great. That's good info.
•How is handling in the wet/shedding water with them?
    •How is dry cornering?
•How is the noise level when rolling?
•Any pics of tires on your 21s?

I'm leaning this way actually. Just hoping to pick your brain a bit before I pull the trigger if you don't mind.

Soo, no one interested in the Pirelli all season?

My wife doesn't track it, pretty much a fast baby hauler.

Going with the all seasons, 12mm front and 18mm rear spacers

    H&R 1" drop springs

    Any suggestions?

the main reason im not considering them is because they arent good enough for the way i drive and the way i push my sq5, thats just my opinion, id rather downsize to 20in and get the DWS06 in the size i want vs the pirelli all seasons:

You have them on your SQ5 now? Can you take pic of tire and front suspension for clearance? Spacers?

All that site has is the Conti Sport Contacts. I've looked there already. But thanks for the heads up.

Tire rack has them delivered in 2-3 days if I lived in Cali.
But east coast is sold out, and they run through distribution centers. It says my distribution center in in Indiana I believe.

So if you live certain places you can get them.

I'm checking with Installer to see if they can source them so I'll get full roadside warranty through them, and if not Mops is getting a PM!

I suggested it when I got mine, two years ago.

Alive from the dead... But has anyone tried to squeeze a 275/35 21 on the stock SQ5 21" wheels? What, if any fitment issues would there be? Diameter would be about 3/4" smaller than the current 265/40 21's I'm running.

Did you have to install spacers to fit the 265's without rubbing?

275 is too big for a 8.5" rim. Also, that small of a sidewall starts to look pretty weak. I think a 295/35 is a pretty small sidewall.

None of the standard 265/40r21s people typically run require spacers. It's the overall diameter that matters with those no the inside clearance...as long as you're under 29.3" or less. Not to mention, I don't know why anyone wouldn't want spacers on a 265 (assuming stock offsets).

The 295/35-21 has the same sidewall as a 265/40-21. Only their widths differ.

No, actually they're not. They're pretty close, but a 265/40 is bigger by ~0.1". Here I thought you were an engineer as well...minus points!! *obviously a tire's actual measurement can vary from the advertised size depending on brand and model, so I'm speaking theoretically and going by the math

For the record- I own set of each...295/35r21s and 265/40r21s. From any kind of angle, I think the optics of the extra width of the 295 make the sidewall appear even smaller.

They all vary by manufacturer, and even by model.

Here I thought you were an engineer. Of course they appear smaller. That's because of the aspect ratio. 35% of the width will always appear smaller than a sidewall that's 40% of the width.
