    Wideband Gauge

I have a 2000 A4 Avant 1.8t that has a catless testpipe installed. I'm thinking that since there is no cat both O2 sensors should be reading about the same. Would I be able to wire one O2 sensors to both banks and not hurt performance? The reason why I would do this is to install a wideband sensor in the other bung. Thoughts?

It won't hurt anything if the car is not getting that signal?

Leave it connected and zip tie it to the fire wall or somewhere else so that the tip isn't touching anything. I've got mine on top of the shock tower mount in the engine bay

Why not just get a third bung welded in place, and do it correctly? Probably wouldn't cost more than $30.

There's that too... For me, I didn't want to go through the the trouble of reaching the downpipe bolts, and it's my daily driver and I haven't been able to negotiate the down time...

I'm learning tig welding soon so I'll probably weld one in myself. I have my exaust apart right now to replace my driveshaft so I figured I would wire up the gauge while the car is out of action.

First off, your engine only has one bank. It is a I4. Second, yes, you cannot delete the primary o2 sensor, that one is important.

Now, an option for you is to run the wideband o2 sensor only and use the simulated narrowband signal for the ECU. This would mean you only have to run one sensor period, and you can have your gauge and feed your ecu signal too. However, I would recommend against this since OEM is usually best.

^^^ that's the logic I followed... Better to leave the front/primary O2, and replaced my rear o2 with the wideband. That and the idea of trying to splice wires into the harness didn't sound like too much fun...

Splicing isn't a big deal since you would just chop up the sensor harness not the engine harness.

A place between here and there

Code it out and get rid of it. Then use the secondary bung.
