Would a failed timing belt cause serpentine belt to shred?

Fun day today, was taking off from a stop light and all of a sudden I hear belt screaming, i was able to take off but pulled right off and parked it. Looked under the hood and the serpentine belt was being shredded. Figured it was a seized AC or alternator. Tried starting it again to see if it turning AC off would unbind it but it sounded like a torn timing belt with just the crank spinning. If it was timing belt, why would it shred the serpentine belt? I did replace timing belt about 500 miles ago, so I'm puzzled, but obviously its possible I did something wrong.

If the timing belt was broken you'd hear a very loud clanking sound when turning the engine over. I know, because I'm in the process of dealing with the aftermath of that very issue.

But I can't say for sure why your belt is shredded unfortunately, maybe when you reinstalled it one of the ribs was hanging off the edge of a pulley, don't know without looking at it.
