    Car remote range

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I am the new owner of a 2010 A4. I have found that the remote range really sucks. I can unlock the doors from about 40 ft away but have to be within 20 ft. to open the windows(used Carista to set this) which to me seems a little useless on a hot day. Both of my remotes do this and I have installed new batteries in them. I have seen issues with this with earlier models(b6,b7) where you can lengthen the antenna to get more range but on the b8 the antenna is part of the FM antenna. Can anything be done to extend the range on my b8?

Try holding the remote to your cheek, seems to improve the range a bit. But unfortunately yes, the range is pretty dismal.

Ha, that's awesome. I miss that show! And yes, the range is garbage on these cars while my truck will reach further than any I've seen.

I don't mind the range anymore. I had someone clone my lock/unlock signal and they went into my car and robbed everything inside. I have them on my dashcam.... So if the range was better it might happen more often...

I hardly ever touch my key fob. Since it unlocks when I reach for the door handle, I dont really need it to open any sooner than that, lol.

You suck! I've been thinking about doing a retrofit wit the push start and all that.

I guess that's one feature I wish we had, or had easy access to retrofit... remote start. I'm pretty OCD about letting my engine warm up to operating temp (or close enough) before I drive off. It would be nice to let the car do that while I finish getting ready for work in the morning.

Actually, the manual says "It takes a long time to warm up fully when it is running at idle. However, wear and noxious emissions are especially high when the engine is warming up. So you should drive away as soon as you start the engine and avoid running at high rpms while the engine is still warming up." My '08 Saab 9-5 manual says basically the same thing - don't warm up at idle and instead drive off to warm the engine up faster - just don't over-rev the engine until it does warm up.

And do not use the coolant temp to determine if the engine is warmed up. Use the oil temp.

I would be super super interested in this as well. I kindov just counted my losses and told myself that my next Audi will have 3g nav, keyless entry, etc. etc....
