    Starting Issues

    I have a 2005 B6 A4 Avant Quattro with 1.8t and 6spd. Car has 93k miles on it.

I just did a motor swap for another AMB with 60k miles on it. I also got a ECU and Wiring Harness through Shokan Auto Parts that I installed as well.

I finished the swap and prepped it to start last night. It started up no issues but would immediately die after a couple seconds. Where the odometer reading for the mileage is says "SAFE" on the cluster. And in advance i never removed the cluster or anthing like that. So tonight I'm planning on checking all my electrical plugs and make sure everything is connected, vacuum lines for boost leaks, and injectors are getting fuel. Also, I'm going to put the original ECU (which i was having major issues with but would atleast run) back in just to see if it will stay running. If it does then that would tell me that I need to have the dealership set up the new ECU.

The only code i threw was "Lost communication with TCM". Could this cause this problem? I figured a bad TCM wouldn't shut the car off...

Now is this a good way to go about this? Are there any other suggestions of things to look for or do that could shed some light on the situation? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

The ECU and immobilizer (in the cluster on b6, afaik) need to be coded to each other. Otherwise it will immobilize shortly after starting.

My friend has a foxwell VAG scan tool. Would I be able to do it with that?

I'm not familiar with that tool. It looks like you'll need the secret key code from both ECUs (or the cluster and new ECU), I've read that various tools can do it, but never done it myself.

Maybe someone who knows more will show up.

Yeah unless i can find a little more info on how to do it I don't really feel comfortable to do it as of right now. I will do some more research and see if I can do it with the scan tool i have available. Otherwise it might be a trip to the dealer

Does anyone else have any input?

You need Vag eeprogrammer and a VCDS/Generic cable to retrive the SKC code.

Then You must adapt the cluster to the ECU :)

So i just swapped the original ecu back in during lunch and the "SAFE" light went off and my mileage came back and the car started up first try no issues. So I'm going to have to get the new ecu set up one way or another.

PM "k0mpressed" on here and have him do an immo defeat for you. He runs a company called "reflect tuning". The guy is a wiz and does good work. I m running one of his tunes now and it's every bit as good as the big boy tunes. Reasonably priced also.

I definitely will give him a PM. Thanks for the advice.
