    2001 a6 2.8 "overheat" problem

Hey guys. I have an A6/C5 quattro 2.8L and I'm having an "overheating" problem. The auto-check system is saying my engine is overheating (the coolant at this point is topped up). My coolant temp on the dash (the senor for this is new) gets to middle point and stays there, which is normal. The radiator fans however would not come on even after turning on A/C to full blast. I tested the fans with 12 volts and they work with direct power. When I tested the thermo-switch at the lower rad hose, the fans still didn't come on. I tested the voltage at the wire that gives power to the fan control module and it was good. As a result, I changed the fan control module today. Fans are still a no go and my auto check system still says overheat even thought coolant temps and coolant levels are good.

I did find out however my A/C condenser isn't spinning even though the pulley is.

My question is, could the non-spinning of the a/c condenser cause the "overheating" symbol? Could it also cause the radiator fans to not spin?

And what else should I check to figure out why radiator fans aren't spinning?

Oh and could it be that the thermo-switch AND the FCM were bad?
    Any feedback is greatly appreciated

A/c compressor isnt spinning? If you already changed the module, change the thermoswitch. make sure all your relays/fuses are good and since you already checked the fans with 12v, you know they work.

A/c compressor clutch failing or compressor failing would make your a/c stop working because thats basically the circulation pump for the refrigerant, but i do not believe it has anything or should have anything to do with your coolant system.

Just a thought I would check to make sure your refrigerant level for the ac is correct. I know most systems have a low/high pressure cut off switch. If the level isn't correct it won't work right. Don't know if this is the problem but I would check it just to be sure.

okay thanks...i ordered a new thermo-switch today and I'll check the refrigerant level now. Update coming soon.
