    Aeb engine in a 2001 A4?

Most cases this makes no sense. However in my situation I have bought a 2001 avant and would like to swap in my 2.0 aeb built monster. Is it possible? What would it take? Better to sale and go 06A?

    Thanks

Not a direct drop-in by any means:
-AC compressor and location a little different. You might be able to use the AEB accessory bracket, but I can't verify. Not sure if AC is important to you.
-AWM ECU and cluster expect oil pan sensor. The AWM oil pan might work on 058 block, but I can't verify.
-2001 is DBW obviously, so swap over throttle body.
-I think oil pressure switch connector might be different, so swap AWM oil pressure sensor onto AEB (unless connector is the same).
-power steering pump and/or lines might be different?
-alternator connectors are probably different, maybe just move AWM alternator to AEB?
-might have to use AEB lower radiator hose. AWM thermostat/housing is located differently, so AWM lower rad hose might not fit.

That's all I have off the top of my head.

What about the crank trigger? I thought the crank wheels are different designs?

I recently did this for the same reason as op, no issues with the crank wheel (swapped crank sensor) but the camshaft sensor wheel needs to be changed

Along those same lines, the AWM ECU will expect a VVT actuator, so you could swap the CCT from AWM onto AEB head. Or you can code out VVT or plug in a resistor to the harness.

yea part numbers are now the same for the trigger wheel as well. The old 058 wheel is obsolete. I have an 06a wheel in my 058

Why not just swap over the entire engine harness and ECU from the AEB? To avoid any wiring/compatabilty issues

Because then you lose all the advantages the 2001 has with tuning etc
