I already have the JHM short shifter but I'm interested in the difference compared to the fancy coloured ECS shifter.

Mario, what about the ECS option do you think is better designed? You don't even have it in your hands yet so how do you know?

I have the Trio and absolutely love it. Notchy, firm, precise...you can really feel the metal to metal. Feels like a gated shift. The throw reduction is not as much as I was hoping, but the precision and the feel are beyond what I was expecting. Interested in how the ECS piece performs...sure looks purdy.

Ummm, it looks like from the pictures the black lower part is not angled. Pretty sure that the JHM first edition was not angled and now it is. The stratmosphere ones were angled and made getting R and 1st adjusted in really easy. JHM's first version was nigh on impossible to get a nice R/1 adjustment until they made the lower part angled. Interested to see if this one will have the same issues.

so now for a quick review, the quality is top notch, installation and adjustment is a breeze ,much easier to adjust then the jhm one, took me literally 2 mn to get it perfect, shifting is smooth as butter,no notching feeling like the jhm,the shifter has virtualy o play not like the jhm one where you have 2 or mm play,it has a shorter throw then the jhm one and also it can be adjusted to have the knob lower, conclusion i love it,great shifter ! good job ecs tuning !!!

ps .....i have a jhm short shifter for sale

ECS is about 12 yrs late to this party but its nice to see new offerings for the B6/7 platform. I ran the Strat shifter for 8 yrs and really liked it combined with the other two parts of the JHM trio. I finally put in the JHM shifter this summer and I'd have to say its nice but reverse can be an issue sometimes. I do prefer the reduction more with the old strat shifter to the JHM version.... This ECS shifter looks to be the best of both..... Would like to hear some reviews from other members before I think about switching.

A few questions on the "review":

    1) did you have the JHM trio previously? If so, I assume you retained the other two JHM pieces and just changed the shifter here, correct?
    2) what settings did you use for the throw and knob height?
    3) did you replace the spring with the stock one, or use the one from the jhm shifter? I like that JHM gives you options for firmer springs. Curious if there is any change in feel over stock when using the stock spring?

    Thx.

I installed the JHM yesterday and I'm not sure I made the right choice. From all that I managed to read before my purchase , I only felt comfortable installing the JHM myself. I'm still unsure why the ECS can't also be installed inside the car. Comparing the JHM to the OEM it's not that different. I chose the shorter of the two throw options and used the preinstalled spring which is said to be slightly firmer than stock. There is a small improvement in play and throw, however, I don't think anyone would comment on it having a short throw. The height is fractionally lower but still too high for my taste. I have a BFI weighted knob coming soon so I hope this improves the feel. I am wishing I had chosen the ECS at the moment, maybe I can add the remaining linkage in the future.

I have one installed, it's been about a week now. After getting the settings 95% there (reverse is finicky), i'm very happy with the product. I can't compare to JHM but the solidness, ability to adjust height/throw is great.

Hey guys, I'm curious from those that have bought the ECS shifter... It states that the shortest throw setting is not usable on the RS4 due to clearance issues. Does anyone have feedback on this? Does this negate the advantages of installing it? At this point I'm leaning towards JHM because of that note.

Jason - Can you explain the difference between the ECS Tuning B7 S4 short shifter and this specific RS4 short shifter? I noticed on the website the part numbers are very close, 009198ECS01 vs. 009198ECS01KT2, and they appear to be visually the same with the added note of "Due to the difference in geometry and size of the OEM shifter housing the lowest throw setting is not able to be utilized on the B7 RS4". Are there other differences?

I may be trying one of these soon. I just bought an RS4, and it has a JHM shifter installed. Obviously shoddy adjustment, as 1st goes in fine but reverse feels as if it is almost locked out most of the time, and you have to move it towards 1st just the right amount for it to go in. I'll attempt adjustment, but if I can't get it to my liking, I'll be trying and reviewing the ECS unit.

Watch their adjustment video, I've had mine in 4 different cars without issues. Not sure why people struggle with it so much but I can't imagine ECS being much if any easier.

my short shifter from ecs broke. the reverse tab that is made of some sort of plastic broke off. reverse is no longer locked out and quick redline shifts from 1-2 are nearly impossible. ecs will not replace the broken part or it is not available. owned it for 3 years and warranty is only good for one year. it was expensive and didn't last that long. I thought ecs would at least try to work with me, but no luck. now I have a 400$ paper weight.

I track with my JHM short-shifter quite vigorously and it's held up nicely for 4 years straight and still going strong.
