I'll check tomorrow but what am I looking for exactly on the lower intercooler hose that would cause my car to randomly die? I don't think there's a boost leak and I'm pretty sure turbos are fine. Sometimes it idles for 10sec then dies, sometimes 15mins before dies and sometimes I drive it and it doesn't die at all.

Sometimes it hesitates to start but never take more than 30sec to get it started

From what I read it sounded like you would turn it over and it would right away. Based on that I recommended to check the Smic hoses to see if one had popped off. Worth a shot to check it out but considering it dies at random time that might not be the issue.

If it was fuel pump I don't think it would crank but I could be wrong. No codes makes me think it's fuel delivery

When my B6 fuel pump went, it wouldn't crank... obv, not the exact same engine and everything, but still thought it'd be worth a chime.

Christian. Check fuel feed lines. Maybe one is being kinked, cutting off fuel?

unplug the MAF and see if it runs. if it does, you have a giant boost leak somewhere.
    any codes?

I unplug maf and its stumbles a little bit then keeps idling. Vacuum holds at 17-18mmhg and boosts just fine to 28psi when wot. It's only at idle that it just dies.

    [QUOTE=iparatroop;11839552]Crank position sensor.

Just replaced crank position sensor 2 weeks ago. And even then it wouldn't cause the car to die, just have a hard time starting right?

Fuel filter is about a year old, although I don't know if E85 wears it out any faster. Going to hook up a fuel pressure tester to see what happens when it dies.

So it idles with the MAF unplugged, but with it plugged in it dies?

CPS will cause engine to die at temp. As heat builds up resistance goes thru the roof and sensor gives no rpm signal. No rpm signal =no fuel.

No it dies either way. It will idle anywhere between 10 sec to 5mins before it dies.

So even if the Bosch sensor is 2 weeks old you think I should order another one? Or could it be in the wiring? I just don't see why a new sensor would go bad that fast unless something else was forcing it to go bad fast

I guess that would show up in the fuel pressure test then if pressure drops to 0 when it dies. Also, wouldn't that throw a code? I'll fuel pressure test it in a couple hours when I get home

Did you change it as preventative maintenance or because it was bad? Are the symptoms you are experiencing now the same symptoms you had prior to replacing it?

I replaced because it would take forever to start on a warm start but would run fine once started. It never died at idle. After I replaced it, it ran perfect for a week and a half and then now this dying at idle issue.

Did you notice any metal shavings on the magnet or any other abnormalities when you pulled the old one out?

I'd try pulling the sensor out and seeing if it's gunked up again. Any metal in that gunk could potentially bridge the gap between the sensor and the whatever it's measuring and lead to a bad signal. If I'm not mistaken, you shouldn't have "gunk" on that sensor.

    O2 sensors?

Just a guess but I assume when you start the car it's in open loop and then switches to closed loop after a short time, maybe when it's switching to closed loop it's dying.

Just temporarily unplugging them should allow you to test this theory

Okay I tested fuel pressure and it held pressure even when the car died. However I noticed that when idling and I touched (literally just touch, not even move it) the cps connector where it connects to the harness, it would die. Going to redo the plug on the harness side and see if that fixes it

Soldered new wires on the harness side, new plug and new gold plated terminals. So far so good. Hopefully it doesn't end up dying again.

Replaced crank position sensor with one off of an a4 and it runs perfect now, no more dying. Upon closer comparison of sensors, what was supposed to be a Bosch sensor I ordered from Ecs tuning turned out to be a vemo and not Bosch
