DRL Color Modification

I have been thinking about doing something different with my DRL's. I'm interested to know if anyone has ever considered modifying them before. What I would like to do is change them from white to blue. I have Sepang and think it would look good and be unique. As far as I know, there aren't many laws concerning the DRL's, and the only color not legally possible is red. How hard could it be? Has anyone researched this before? Thoughts?

There is a guy here in So Cal who I am pretty sure could do it, but would likely be extremely costly. Minimum 500 bucks I'm thinking. These Audi lights are sealed with PermaSeal which is the enemy when it comes to opening up headlights. Once open, then it's just a matter of working on the LED which isn't as big a concern.

Look for a guy on IG Called El Stig. He is the guy who could pull it off.

180 customs in brooklyn may b able to help out. They have done lots of headlight mods for bmw's, infinitis, and even audis

thought we couldn't open our headlights? If I remember correctly @riceboy22 was turned down from 180 customs, otherwise we'd all have ecodes

Yeah, they actually installed my ecodes and took a look at both sets of lights then. No bueno. They can be opened up, but it's a PITA and you risk breaking something in the process. It's too bad because they do some awesome work.

They can be opened up, it just requires a lot of time and patience, that's all SQive, I know George at El Stig, if you'd like I can ping him and ask him for quote/thoughts.

Right, but that's just the surround that's painted and not the actual LED output (obviously)

I think the above does look cool when done right... On the other hand, here is an RS5 that had color-changing LEDs installed. He could pick any RGB color via remote inside the cabin. Personally, I think it looks terribly tacky (never mind the rest of the car ) but to each his own.

To be clear they cant open up pre fl headlights for the 5, but can do fl ( see above ).

And i just noticed this was the q5 section haha

I don't know why I came across this (searching drl color for fog matching), so sorry to bring up an old thread. However, I don't see why this would be that hard. You don't have to open the headlights to access/change the drl source leds. I'm pretty sure it's just a module that you swap off the back any time you change headlights (ie. anyone that has installed ecodes moved the drl leds over). I know I've lit up the drl surround of my ecodes that sit in my room with a green led off a power adapter messing around before. All you have to do is pull the headlights to access the back of them, and this should be relatively easily. It might require soldering new leds into the module but certainly not opening up headlights.

When I swap mine in a few weeks I'll try to remember to follow up with details once I put my eyes on the module myself.

There is a company called EMTuning in the UK that does a lot of lights including replacement of the LED driver. When I talked to them last, they were working on stuff for the Q5, not sure if it's done or not.

As stated headlights don't have to he opened, but they can be if you want to do anything else to them. If you want, send them to lightwerkz they were much more helpful and communicative when I was doing my build then 180 was.
