    P0016 and horrible idle...no CEL - 2008 B7 2.0t Tip/Quattro

Well...I barely made it home as the car acted like it had fouled plugs but I had no CEL. When I plugged in my scanner, it pulled the P0016 code that was stored. Since it was able to drive (I had to rev it in neutral and then put it in drive...I hate neutral drop but it was the only way to get it moving). Once I parked, I turned it off and will not be moving it.

Everything I've read says this has to do with the chain/tensioner on the rear but then I'm also reading that this means it may have jumped a tooth. I have an aftermarket warranty through Penn Warranty Company but I've read some horrible reviews about them online so I'm kind of scared but will be starting that process tomorrow.

Anyone have suggestions where to start if they refuse to honor the warranty (like most reviewers experienced)?

Was there noises? What happened? As in what were you doing at the time? How many miles? Did you have a loud ticking before this happened ? (signs of bad timing chain)

Also, do you have a compression tester? If not pick one up, and check the cylinders, that will show you wether or not you bent valves which from what I understand is guaranteed when timing jumps, but maybe someone with more experience will chime in

I was driving and exiting the freeway. I've had ticking but it sounded more like the injectors than the chain though I definitely had some chain noise. I just hit 107k and did the timing belt 3-4k ago. The exhaust side sounds off (I have a slight whistle due to an attempt to clamp on a universal flex joint on the DP that left a small enough hole to create a whistle at high RPM's)...the "whistle" seems to start at lower RPM's than before, used to be only past 3500k, but now starts around 1500k.

I don't have a compression tester but from what I read, if you jump one tooth you're more than likely out of timing but still on the safe side but if you jumped more then you start bending valves. I'll wait for someone who has more experience to chime in. I'm going to have it towed to an Audi dealer (I hate to do it) and have the warranty pick up any cost since this is definitely covered by them.

I'm kind of doubting it's a vacuum leak as everything I've read on this code has to do with the timing chain on the rear. I'm having it towed to a shop on Saturday and they will work with my warranty company.

    Could be any of this?

Timing chain stretched, or timing belt skipped a tooth due to wear
    Misalignment of timing belt/chain
    Tone ring on crankshaft slipped/broken
    Tone ring on camshaft slipped/broken
    Bad crank sensor
    Bad cam sensor
    Damaged wiring to crank/cam sensor
    Timing belt/chain tensioner damaged
