Supercharger Belt Replacement, Is it Necessary to do AC Belt Replacement at Same Time

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have almost 82k miles on my 2012 b8 s4 and getting the supercharger belt replaced this weekend. I've seen some say on the forum that you should get the AC belt replaced at the same time, but I do not see the AC belt as a service item on Audi's maintenance schedule. Is it truly necessary? It will run me about $150 extra. Thanks for your thoughts!

I believe there are only two belts, SC belt and the large serpentine belt. Have to take the SC belt of to do the other so makes sense to do them and save some labor.

On a side not I just went Stage 2 and was looking at the SC belt. Had clear signs of getting close to being replaced and I am at 62k.

Now I'm super confused.....the supercharger belt and serpentine belt is different?

I haven't had any of the belts changed yet, but getting quotes from local shops. I asked for a quote on Supercharger belt and AC Belt. However what should I be getting replaced at 80k?

I'd get both done as as said the SC belt needs to come off for the AC belt to be changed.
Both are at substantial miles now
    Custom stacked chargecooler
revo Stage dual pulley with revo intake
Milltek ValveSonic Exhaust Q5 Brembo 4 Pots
    18x9 Wolfrace ProLite alloys

Timing gear and ancillary units drive

Replacement interval of the ribbed V-belt for all ancillary units except Roots blower: Lifetime

Replacement interval of the ribbed V-belt for Roots blower: 75,000 miles (120,000 km)

Tensioning systems of both ribbed V-belts: Lifetime

Timing gear chain replacement interval: Lifetime

Timing gear chain tensioning system: Lifetime

So in theory no need to change both :)

There are two belts. The crank to supercharger belt, and the large serpentine belt. The crank to supercharger belt is to be changed at 75K miles (2010-2012) or 55K miles (2013+). The large serpentine belt is supposed to be inspected at regular intervals and replaced if worn.

My car just rolled over 70K miles. I had the S/C belt changed. The serpentine belt was fine so I left it alone.

Guys I'm very confused. I had a shop replace my supercharger belt today and asked them to replace the AC belt. When I got the car back I asked them if they happened to see the condition of the serpentine belt and they said that the AC belt is the serpentine belt? Is this true?

Yes, serpentine belt will run the a/c and water pump. People typically don't call it a water pump belt or a/c they just refer to it as a serpentine belt. The s/c belt is called so because it only spins on component. Hope tat helps.

I think you're getting terms confused. AC could stand for either Air Conditioning or Air Compressor. "Air Compressor" is the Supercharger. Like I said before, there are two belts. One long one (Serpentine belt) that runs the air conditioning, water pump, and other accessories. And one shorter one that just runs the Supercharger. The shorter one is the one that needs to be replaced at either 55K or 75K depending on your car's model year.

Did you tell them to replace the "supercharger belt" or did you tell them to replace the "AC Belt"? They probably got confused and replaced the larger one.
