So what's causing my drivetrain movement?

I have now installed 034 engine mounts, APR snub mount, 034 gearbox mount, and a powerflex diff mount but I'm STILL getting a lot of drivetrain movement. It's very obvious when shifting at high rpm and even when braking hard, the whole car lurches and it's a pig to drive. Anyone else experience this? What else should I be looking at? The only mounts I haven't replaced are the side mounts for the diff but surely they can't be causing all that movement?

yeah, sounds like the engine mounts. one way to check is, if you have a manual, watch while you have a friend start it up and stall it out with a foot on the brake. if the engine shakes more than an inch or so the mounts probably need replacing.

Lol hobbled. Yeah sort of. I replaced the stock bush with a powerflex poly bush. Same thing except without the expense.

heh, i blurred together the 034 and APR mounts, thought they were both the snub.

well, if the drivetrain is tight from tip to tail (i.e. nothing has come loose) then what if it's not a mount at all? could you have subframe or trans crossbar damage? or even a touchy clutch?

Hmm yeah that's the only other possibility really. The clutch isn't perfect but there's no way it's causing everything to move. I've got a lot of work to do, may as well pull the engine... roughly how long is the process?

Do you have a short throw shifter?

If not then try grabbing the knob and pull up. If there is noticeable play then your plastic shifter parts are probably worn out.

You may also want to check your shift linkage and stabilizer rod too. It is surprising how much movement a loose/worn out shifter/linkage can feel like.

My car is past worn in rifle bolt smooth with solid mounts everywhere and all the shifter upgrades.

No I don't but a JHM trio kit is on the cards when I eventually pull the engine. I reckon I'll go with a TTV billet flywheel and rs4 clutch kit. I've also got to replace the synchros.
And then make a start on the engine...clean the block and replace the oil check valves, port the inlet manifold, install manifold spacers, paint the valve covers, replace gaskets, replace aux belt and tensioner, inspect cam adjusters and chain tensioners, install full magnaflow catback, and maybe xspower/ssac downpipes.

I'm going thru the same thing. I don't feel it when I'm braking though, just when shifting. I've done all the mods that you have done as well, just a different brand of snub and diff mount. 6 speed and I as not happy with the feel as well. Almost makes me not want to drive the car at times. So its not just you Hooblah.

Jimmy what are the odds of all of that? I trust your judgement and have never pointed me in the wrong direction.
