    Cheap Car Insurance

    Howdy Audiziners!

I was shopping around for insurance because my current policy gets over in another two weeks. As I was scouring through the interweb looking for competitive quotes, I came across this company called Metromile.
BUT, do remember that this insurance currently serves only seven states in the US. Yes. Seven. So if you fall under these states: California, Illinois, New Jersey, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Virginia or Washington, you are in luck. I quickly ran the numbers and found that I'd be saving a good $20/month on the premiums (while keeping the same coverage). They have multi-car discount as well!

Downside: The company "claims" that it would only track your miles through a device connected to the OBD-II port. It does not track driving habits though. I know some people are concerned about this. If you drive more than 150miles per day, the rates would shoot up by 19-22cents/mile. WA state gets a cap of 250miles.

Here is the link if you guys would like to give it a shot: https://www.metromile.com/
Just thought I would pass along a good information I came across. Cheers!

I would ask around with people who do insurance claims or better yet, call up some body shops in the area and see what they think. They will be able to tell you if you were to file a claim, which insurance companies are easy to work with and won't push back on using OEM parts.

25 is that magical number where the stupid stereotypes for guys seems to go away. I pay less for insurance on my car then we do for my wifes Rav4....

And OP I would seriously think about having an OBDII port monitoring your driving. You can guarantee if there is an incident you involved in they will have all the data required to deny your claim, even if the police say your 100% not at fault. Never ever trust an insurance company, ever. If you think they are helping you, they are helping themselves first...

I'm 23, clean record, no tickets, no accidents.

Best I could find by myself was still over $300/mo!

Luckily I was able to stay on my parents insurance so it ends up being right around $70/mo.

    ------------------------

This would be a decent idea but, no way am I sending my driving habits out. Because, well, you know

Yes, I have the same concern about the OBDII monitoring device they give but I also know many people who use these things for checking their fuel consumption, engine health etc. Also, can the insurance company hold it against you even though they mention they don't track any of your driving habits? If this device is used in, god forbid, any case of theft, it might be helpful to track the car...?? I am not advocating or promoting this insurance company here...just wanted to gather more information/reviews since it felt too good to be true. Sort of a clickbait I guess.

So far, my experience with SF has been really good so I am going to continue with them.

^^ take a defensive driving course.

I envy anyone paying 70$ monthly for insurance. New York it's pure rape even with a clean record. 280 monthly, 500 deduct collision and comprehensive.

I remember when I was 20 trying to finance a VW Jetta, 1000$ a month. Laugh out f**king loud.

NH has great and low insurance premiums (also the only state that doesn't require insurance). I pay about $110 for full coverage through USAA with $1000 deductible, i'm 24 so I haven't hit their price reduction range yet (age wise).

    Agreed.

What are you supposed to do if some old lady in her 1991 Camry T-bones the shit out of you at an intersection?

Take her to court because she wont/cant pay? Whose going to cover the legal fees? Is your insurance company going to fight for you?

NH requires everyone with Auto Insurance to have uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage.

In VA, you can remain uninsured, but it cost $500/yr in the form of a state fee, so if you have a beater you're still better off just getting minimal liability insurance.

I live in NY and only pay $500 for the 6 months for full coverage with $1K deductible. (I think that works out to $85 a month, won't know, I just pay the full 6 months)

To try to compare rates with someone else to find the best one is useless. Companies use individual credit characteristics, driving history and location. You could have an identical twin with same exact car living next door, and you might pay $ 500 more or less a year than he does.

From what I have read, you have to be able to prove that you can pay a $50,000 bond. Not sure the specifics of how that works (and don't want to find out first hand) but most people do have insurance to prevent being sued. It is actually not statistically the lowest state percentage wise for uninsured drivers when you look at studies done.

If you ever get pulled over in NH they do not ask for proof of insurance.

They talk about it at the link here: http://www.biancopa.com/who-we-are/f...t-insured.html

I have geico too. I know age is a major factor, I'm 27 so I'm almost there.

My premium for 6 months is 1480, so it's really a bit south of 250. I'm taking the defensive driving course online to get collision lowered.
But that's good news.. I guess I'll have to wait.

    Cheap Car Insurance

I got my license from Rochester, NY and GEICO quoted me some 110/month for my then new Mazda6. Came to PA and the rate immediately switched to 240. Paid that for 6 months and then came down to 170 after I switched to SF but it still is a ridiculous amount.
Now, with the S4, I have the same numbers. *blows my mind*

Just for fun, go to a couple of your local body shops and ask them how your insurance company is to deal with. See if they are good or SOB's to deal with, or do they nickel and dime the customer and shop on everything, or are they generally fair. Might be surprised.

Geico in NYC 23 with one not at fault accident and 2 moving violations $325 a month with $1000 or 1500 deductible (can't remember) and all discounts. My rates went up by $30 shortly after I turned 23 which I found odd.

Boy I don't miss the days of paying $3000/yr @ 19 years old with a 2000 trans am.

I'm 33, no accidents, & live in burbs and pay $800 year for my '13 with a $500 deductable thru Allstate. I'm at the age that I'd rather pay a bit more not to have to deal with claim restrictions, body shop limitations, and hassles with payouts. Not worth my time.

And no way would I spend 6 hours going through a defenseless driving class to save 10% I'd rather be doing something more productive😀

I pay $238/month for the 2013 S4, 2015 Yukon Denali and 2002 Corvette Z06. That is with $250/500K coverage and $500 deductible through ANPAC who I have been with for the past 20 years. I'm 40 and my wife is 34, both have clean driving records, no accidents. I also get a 25% refund each year for being claim free, with my bundled insurance I get a check back each year for ~$1000

They should, that's a piece of what you are paying for....
