Lights just came on. Checked vacuum lines, reconnected back bank. Lights still on, hoses are hot as hell, powersteering is a bit rough to turn. Suggestions?

Vacuum fluctuating between 22.1 to 23 went to 20 once. All at idle

notice acceleration is a bit hard also, I just rechecked the lines and still do not see any loose connections.

no noticeable issue braking either. not sure if it is in limp mode either.

Edit: buddy is bringing his VAG/Com in tomorrow to scan.

My ESP light came on and stayed on a while back (sometime last year) turned out to be the steering angle sensor, quick wheel alignment fixed it. Another time it came on was when my MAF went bad, but the CEL came on with it. "Mass airflow low circuit" or something like that.

It's your abs module. Send it to cheapabs for a rebuild. Cheap and quick fix. This is a very common problem with these cars. Happened to mine last winter. Rebuid fixed it. Wheel speed sensors don't fail unless the wires are cut or something. Save the money

Should i remove the module for now until i get a callback from them? Can i drive with it out? I am already using a speedometer app on my phone which is pretty spot on.

Edit: discovered I can drive without module, contacted Matt at Cheap ABS and have a friend who is also going to send over there as well, Thank you for that bit of info, that is going to save me hundreds of dollars.

Yeah no prob! Glad I could help. They usually have a week long turnaround which isn't too bad

Put the abs/speed sensors on. No change. Just for my own knowledge. Why would the ABS module not let the speedometer work. I have since unplugged the ABS, until i can get it sent to cheapabs

The speedometer only functions on data fed to it by the driver's side wheel speed sensor. However, the wheel speed sensor is only connected to the ABS module and the speedometer pulls data from the ABS module

grrr.... so my CEL came on, bank 1 &2 and powertrain, I cleared the codes and will see if they come back on, I know my vacuum lines are good. they were both pending faults, I really hope another issue is not coming up on me.

Got my ABS back from Matt at Cheap ABS, fixed the issues completely. Thanks everyone.

now on to the whining noise near the back of the car, sounds like it is originating from the fuel filter, which is getting replaced today with my oil change.

Terry, that bottom rear-most Torx is really hard to get at. Did you unscrew the coolant tank and then kind of "bend" the brake line pipes up as you lifted up the entire ABS unit just like on the video on the VW?
I think you mentioned coming in through the fender but there only seems to be a 1" diameter hole behind the large windshield washer tank that sits in the wheel well. Did you have to take out that tank and then come in via that hole?

i removed the cover that covers the battery and brake booster, then I CAREFULLY moved the pipes up as well and without bending them I was able to jimmy it up enough to get the torx bolt removed.

at about 2:30 into this is where i did mine from.

Thanks Terry - did you also move the coolant tank out of the way? Did the pipes that go down below the ABS slide upwards in their brackets? (Danged Audi!!! : )

I did move the tank, didnt have to disconnect any hoses though, they do slide up, but not easily, you have to ensure both side clips are out completely. do not jerk on it as you will bend the pipes.

I got the bottom ones out ok. I lifted the whole unit maybe an inch or not even, and that was enough to get in there. Is there any way to tell visually if the unit is not working right. It looks pristine in there. Anyway, I'll box it up and send it off this morning since, if it's a vulnerable model anyway, then I might as well get it refurbished. Took the opportunity to do the o-rings in the headlights too. Boy, there's not many things left that don't work properly on this car, and it was definitely not well looked after, but I guess another one "saved" : )

CheapABS... go that route, good guy and he does a redundant system in his, as for seeing if it has issues, I think most of the issues are on the circuit board, be sure to tape that thing in place and cover the helf still in your vehicle so it stays clean.

Matt has a turn around of 1 day, once he gets it he is done and ships it back that day.

http://cheapabs.com/ very nice pricing as well.

as for the condition of my car when I got it, I wanted to smack the previous owner, all the grilles were cracked, hence why i swapped in one the Ebay ones for now, tons of small issues, I am also saving up for a new/used engine that I can do upgrades to while it is out so I can then sap it before TC issue time arises.
